Winch Options for RAM 2500 6.7L on AEV Bumper

Well, I finally purchased the AEV low tube front bumper for my 2019 Ram 2500 Cummins. I've had my eye on it for a while and ended up ordering from Summit Racing (free shipping). Some of the parts from AEV are backordered and I am waiting on the center section and mounts. Anyway, the Warn 16ti is not in the budget so I am looking for opinions on other winches. I want to spend $1000 max. I am trying to figure out what will fit in that small space. I looked on the AEV site and all it says is "other winches may be used with additional hardware and brackets". The challenge is knowing which other winches will fit in that small space. Is there a list out there we can choose from? It would be helpful to know what the measurements of that space are. Has anyone else tried something less expensive than the 16TI? Matts offroad recovery uses the Harbor Freight Badlands brand with great success. Thanks in advance!

I plan on trying a Badlands 12k when I do my AEV bumper, but that'll be next year minimum. From what I have been able to tell from the AEV instructions is the different winch "options" basically add support brackets for the winches that have separate solenoid/control boxes - they look to mount the boxes to the bumper instead of the winch.

As far as I know the Badlands Apex does have a removable solenoid pack so it may just be a case of fabbing a mounting bracket for that. The winch footprint bolt patterns are semi-standard as long as you aren't getting into oddball winches like a 8274..

Just bolted my AEV on yesterday. The space is not terribly small I didn’t think although about a 1/2 inch too small for my monster superwinch talon 18k I already have. I’m either going with another superwinch 12k for about 830 or a sherpa steed or stallion. Just need to double check measurements.

I went with the xbull 13.5k w/wireless remote and used the warn relo kit to move the control box under hood on top of fuse box.

Thanks that's helpful. I have watched recovery after recovery on Matts channel with the badlands 12k winch and they have worked flawlessly. I am going to give it a shot.

Let us know how it goes. I’m planning to do the same but I won’t get to that part of my build till next summer.

Casey Ladelle also uses the badlands winches too, those guys all torture the crud out of those winches without any obvious problems. I used to be a Warn guy but I’ve come around..

I think AEV is largely switching over to ComeUp! winches. I'd expect you shouldn't have any trouble sitting one of those. I've never used one, but I've been told they're very high quality.

it's been a great unit and has done everything from beach duty to farm work. the wireless capability is unbeatable.

Will do....picked it up Saturday for $549 from Harbor Freight. What a great deal. I am still waiting on the rest of the bumper parts from Summit (supposed to b shipped directly from AEV. Saying Oct 10th on their site.

Hopefully you have better luck with shipping than I did. I ordered from summit too and the center section fedex managed not only to scratch it up but also put a dent in one of the edges. I'm waiting on the second try and like you should ship early Oct. The corner pieces were only nicked so I kept those. Can't give all the blame to fedex though AEV ships that big old thing in a plastic bag and single layer box. Good luck to you.

Xbull 14.5k fits easily. Had to pull the full guard to drop it in but not too bad.

Ok finally got the bumper from AEV and we installed it last weekend. The AEV bumper and Badlands Apex went in with no problems at all. In fact the hardest part of the entire install was removing the grill so we could get the factory bumper off. So many little fasteners and connections....took forever. I would suspect you have plenty of room for pretty much any average sized winch in the 12-15K class. You always have the option to relocate the solenoid somewhere in the engine compartment if need be. See pics below.....def recommend the bumper....it atts around 300lb to the front of the truck.

Looks awesome - thanks for reporting back. Did you order either the Warn 16.5 or the M12000/M15000 mounting kits, and if so did you need any of those parts?

Sorry, I forgot to include that. Yes, I ordered the Warn winch mount and it comes with several options. No need for drilling or cutting.....see pic below....seriously, the bumper and winch were easy.....the damn grill was pain in the rear.....20231129_094224.jpg

Got it thanks. Yeah I'm not looking forward to the grille, as I plan to do a night conversion at the same time and will need to get a few parts painted.
