6.7 Engine Air Filter Confusion

I put a stock filter back in my truck last Tuesday, and today it regened. It still seems to bee too soon for a regen, however, it was complete very fast, so maybe the filter is helping. I will still have everything checked by the dealer on 10/4
Give it a little time. If you were running the incorrect filter previously it may take a cycle or two to get everything back on track. Start monitoring your regeneration frequency. Be sure to note the number of engine hours and miles between each cycle, and how long the cycle takes. Also important to monitor if the cycle shows 0% after completion and how rapidly the soot reading returns after a cycle finishes.

It does show 0% after completion, and instead of a 50 minute regen, it only lasted 15 minutes. I will try and monitor miles between regens.

There are multiple threads on this subject, I may have posted in here but I don't think I have. Back in June I swapped out my OEM air filter for a WIX air filter. I do not track exact mileage for regens but do frequently monitor my DPF EVIC screen. After I swapped to the WIX I immediately noticed my truck would slightly shudder when accelerating for the first drive of the day. It only did this on my first drive and it was fine for the rest of the day. In addition to this, I noticed I was getting a regen probably every 100 miles or so, I am estimating. Prior to swapping my air filter I can count on one hand the amount of regens my truck did, they were rare.

In July I drove from OH to VA pulling a trailer and the truck did not regen at all on the highway. However, once I started making my normal drives again I noticed regens about every 100 miles or so. After seeing a few of these threads come up I ordered a OEM filter and swapped it out 2 weeks ago. Since swapping it out I have done a few short trips around town, 20 mile highway run x2, and a 50 mile highway run x2 with a trailer. The shudder on initial take off is completely gone and my DPF screen is still showing 0 %. When I read people stating it could be an air filter causing it I did not believe it one bit. However, I'm a believer now and from here on out my truck will only see the OEM filter installed.

It’s a real thing. Lived it myself also.

When I try to convince others of it, they look at me like I have two heads. That includes the dealership that sold me the incorrect AA filter.

This has been an interesting topic to be reading about and be dealing with as well! My 2019 came with the CP4.2 fuel pump and as we all know there were issues and eventually a recall. Now, the whole time with the CP4.2 pump I had no issues, and the truck ran great, regens weren't an issue. When my first oil change at 15,000 (08/11/21) came around I ordered all the OEM filters and Rotella T6 5-40 oil, and the dealer sent me the AA filter. I can't say which air filter was originally there, just replaced with what they sent me. After the service, again no issues of any kind, regens were at the 24-hour driving time. Second oil change (01/10/23) so ordered the OEM filters and again was sent another AA air filter, no issues. On 04/25/23 I was finally able to get the fuel pump recall to the CP3.3 pump completed. Then the Star Parts notice came out changing the air filter application, so I ordered up the AB air filter and installed it. For the last couple months, I've had two early regens less than 500 miles, two days ago a normal DPF 99/100% and 23/24 hours driving time. So, I'm thinking of installing the AA filter again and see what happens! Something that hasn't been mentioned or I missed, is is anyone still running the CP4.2 pump with whichever air filter having this regen issue or is it just with the CP3.3 upgraded pump and software?

software?
That’s the part I’m wondering about? Seems the earlier trucks weren’t having air filter or regen issues until they had the hpfp upgrade along with the latest and greatest updates. What exactly changed other than the fuel pump? The 19’s didn’t seem to have these issues if they didn’t have trouble with the cp4 fuel pump or have the updated pump installed.

Since installing an OEM air filter, my passive regen seems to be working again. Tuesday, my DPF gauge got to this:
20230919_155949.jpgI have since needed to work out of town for a couple of days, which means a 100 mile round trip. After that first run, the readout went to 0% without triggering an active regen, and has stayed at 0 ever since. Here lately, before the filter swap, it would steadily climb up to around 50% and go into an active regen, every single time. It was like passive regen no longer worked.
I will continue to monitor this.

What is the specific oem p/n you installed?

Interesting to note your gauge has the little hash marks at the 12.5% and 87.5% reading points, but not at 37.5% and 62.5%. My 2022 does not have those marks at all. Only 1/4 % increments. IMG_3710.jpeg
