Sept. 11 2023 I was at a Dodge dealer in SC for an oil filters change. I was in there for three hours/ when I went to pay I was charged $742,
it was only oil and filters! Last time I did it for less than $250 ... so I was prepared for maybe a little more because it was a dealer this time.
I am a handycaped old man, I feel cheated-taken advantage of. Thanks for letting me share my experience.

Sorry to hear that, what was the breakdown on the receipt?

You mention oil + filters, plus fuel filters in the title.. so I’m understanding that it was oil/filter and both fuel filters.

Under $250 almost seems too low, as the parts alone are about that much. Where did you have it done last time?

Yeah it can be fairly painful. There's a thread somewhere where owners shared what they had paid for the same service at dealerships. Seems like about $600 was the most reported in that thread.

If all you got was oil change and filters, that dealership should be ashamed of themselves but unfortunately, they're probably not. I'm sure it's a waste of breath suggesting that you find somewhere else to get service done.

$178 in parts for the oil change, $66 labor for oil change. $266 for fuel filters, $196 for labor. So all together $745. That bothers me. I have a hard time with it.

Did mine the other day. Total cost was about 300 US for fuel, air, oil filter and oil. Bought most of this stuff two years ago at Genos and prices have gone up since then. Oil I bought at Amazon or Walmart whenever I found it at a good price. Amazon's price goes up and down like a yoyo. So probably saved 500 dollars for a couple of hours work and I KNOW it was done right. Only other cost was some pain where it usually doesn't hurt at 75.

Its outrageous the amount they charge for labour on the fuel filters when its a 1/2 hr job i can do my fuel filters and oil in 45-60 mins easy, i buy my fuel filters from the dealer currently and use ams oil. My cost for parts/ oil is 250-300$ CAD depending on the sale at the time

We hashed this out just the other day, and it seems about $250 retail cost is a good number for OEM filters and synthetic oil. So the dealer's actual cost is less than that. Any decent tech worth his salt with a lift and all the equipment at hand should easily be able to do all the service in an hour. So yeah, $750 is highway robbery.

Sorry to hear the dealer is all about maximizing profits and could care less about building customer relationships. To anyone who is unable to do this maintenance yourself I would strongly advise looking into local diesel shops and see what they charge. If anyone is near Yorktown, VA if you bring me the supplies I will do it for free in my driveway. I usually buy all my filters from Genos and pick up my oil from Walmart for roughly 25 per gallon (T6 Rotella).

The only thing that is really outrageous, for a dealership, is the labor for the fuel filters.

Source your own oil & filter, and fuel filters and then pay an independent shop to do the work.

Idk, $444 for oil and filters seems plenty high to me, too. The same can be sourced elsewhere for about half that much.

It absolutely can be gotten cheaper, but it’s about right for normal dealership prices. That’s why they are called stealerships.

Im feel your pain, Im also older and arthritic and limited to doing most car repairs and maintenance so I'm at the mercy of where I take the truck to. I was lucky to find a really good mechanic about 25 years back. He proposed to me to buy the parts and he would install them. I usually get the oil, oil filter, air filter, cabin filter and fuel filters for around $360 give or take pricing at the time and he installs for $140. All in for around $500 Canadian.
If your in the US you probably do better on the part prices anyway, as far as a mechanic, word of mouth is good but get on the phone and find someone and go talk to him, look at the garage and see if you get a good vibe off the guy.
I found a lot of bad and mediocre mechanics before I found my guy.

I think saying it's a 1/2 hour job for a dealer tech to get the truck in their bay, on the lift, do the work, then the cleanup, then the paperwork, is disingenuous.

Do dealers charge a lot? Yes they do. But the OP's charges are about par for the course on a current diesel full service.

If they already have it on the lift for the oil yes its a 1/2 hr job (here the dealers still use in ground pits to do oil/ fuel filter services which makes it even faster) i can do my full service in 1 hr including putting it on the hoist. Even at 1.5hrs labour its still more than enough but it looks like they are charging for 2+hrs
