Rear Bumper

Welp she got hit today. Was parked and my wife and I were putting our 5 month old son in his carseat in the back of the truck and all the sudden heard/felt a loud noise/jolt in the truck. Looked back in time to see a Isuzu NRR (paper shredding company truck) had cut too close behind the truck trying to get into an open area on the side of the street and clipped the drivers rear corner bad. The guy had stopped. I called the police and filed a report and here we are.

So here we go. Amazingly all the lighting still works. Doesn't appear to be any real structural damage other than the brackets supporting the rear bumper. Its going to be roughly 2-3 months before the body shop can get to it and its driveable.

Wondering what people have used for aftermarket rear bumpers? The body shop says if I wanted to upgrade they could purchase whatever I want and if its more expensive than an OEM bumper I could cover the difference which I think is fair. Just seeing what people have and what they like/dislike.

Count your blessings as well. My wife was actually walking to the back of the truck when it got hit. We had just changed our sons diaper and she was taking it to go find a garbage can while I got him strapped in. The guy in the Isuzu clearly was going too fast and probably wouldn't have seen her either. I thank God she wasn't even a couple feet farther or she probably would have been taken out too. Trucks are replaceable. Your loved ones aren't.

I've had ranchhand rear bumpers on other Rams and they were decent armor to protect from parking lot idiots. Not sure how one of them would stand up in that situation, but I'd say probably better than the comparatively paper thin OE bumpers. In situations like this I'd certainly ask the body shop what options they can get their hands on and see if you like any of them. Thats how my old man ended up getting his steelcraft front replacement bumper very cheap after a bambi related incident.

Thank god what a beautiful family. I have used steel craft on my other trucks they have the holes for the backup sensors.

Don't hate it, lots of utility there, aux light cut outs, steps to replace your drop step(albeit higher), shackle mounts, led license plate lights included. Do not like logos cut into the metal or shiny rivets (shown on black bumper stock photos)but otherwise I like.

On the other "in the wild" photos they show, the license plate light is weird, it would be nicer to have a slimline bulb under that step/guard.

Yeah IMO they are much more attractive in the black powder coat they come shipped in.
 
I like the looks of the chassis unlimited, but not a big fan of a 3 piece design for a rear bumper. I understand the modularity and ease of replacement if a corner becomes damaged, but just don’t like seeing the seams.
 
I’m an AEV fanboi but I don’t think I like the AEV rear bumper. I think it’s the swoopy tubies for me.

I think that’s why I just painted my stock rear bumper and called it a day.

Realistically don’t need to improve departure angle or add any more weight my Hemi already weighs 8220 with us in it.

Agree. I would probably already have done this front and rear if they had followed the same aesthetic on the rear. Don't care for the mismatch.
