So sorry for all the qesutions. 19 Ram 2500 1800 miles on it, unloaded, mixed driving with engine break set to auto. It seems that 90% of the time when it shifts from 5th to 4th its a loose shift, feels like someone who doesn't know how to smoothly let off the clutch feeling. Best way I can say how it feels, it wont do it when the egine break is off. Super smooth every other time but when the engine break is on 5th to 4th is just odd. Is this normal for it to shift a little rougher when the break is on?

Smart azz guess, but I assume you're referring to the exhaust "brake." Your issues are with the EB set to auto while towing? Or are you employing Auto EB when unloaded? If the latter, you can expect all manner of shifting shenanigans, especially if you drive around in Tow/Haul mode. If you want to employ the EB when unloaded, which is fine, set it to full (normal).

Yeah didn’t even catch that LOL yeah I’m unload and not running in T/H just have the EB set to auto. Would this hurt the trans in some way?

The Auto EB setting is designed to help maintain vehicle speed while ascending hills with a load. It is not well suited for operating the truck unloaded and, as you've discovered, can make the tranny all funky with the shifting. Use the "Full" setting when unloaded and save some waer and tear on the brakes. Your tranny will thank you.

So did some driving today unloaded and with the EB on full and still does this wonky shift from 5th to 4th. I guess it's the TQ converter locking and unlocking I guess. Just worried it's going to damage the trans.

Curious... Is this issue occurring when you're leaning into the pedal to force a downshift?

Nope, it’s when I’m off the pedal, EB engaged, just slowing down for a turn or say off ramp. Any time it shifts on it’s own from 5th to 4th like clockwork.

Electronic Range Select. The right side of your steer wheel has +/- paddles that allow the operator to limit the top gear. You can sorta manually shift gears with the switches.
Oh yeah I had to get rid of MDS off my old V8 that way. That doesn’t have any bearing on this, I had it on to find the gear it was doing this at. So on or off still does it, but only with the EB on. It’s just like someone letting off a clutch to fast kinda feeling.

You might consider biting the bullet and submitting to an extraordinarily skilled dealer technical dept, wherever that may be. Sarcasm aside, I'd be concerned that perhaps the EB is not scheduling correctly and may be beating up the trans. I dunno - I'm shooting blind.

Yeah I’m going to but I sadly have no dealers around me. 2 hours to the nearest decent one. So for now I just don’t use it lol brand new truck too

Ya, that sux. And beware the "THEY ALL DO THAT!" repair procedure. It's more common than naught, and indicates that you need to find another dealer, which in your instance could be a bugger. :(

Yeah that’s why I gotta drive so far lol year and a half with my 19 1500 and they couldn’t fix anything. So got a 2500 to see if this is better haha in a week or two I’ll go south and find a dealer or local shop.

Do you cover non-dealer repairs for warranty work since I do not have a local dealer around?

Thank you for the follow up! Unfortunately we are only able to escalate a case for you if you are working with a certified Ram dealership. Please know that you may call in to our customer care team to receive support with coordinating an appointment at your nearest dealer. The number to do that would be 866-726-4636.
