After 3 TRXs and two 5th gen 2500s, I started missing something more “simplistic” so I sold my 2019 Limited and was looking into 3rd Gens. This led me down a huge path of exploring all types of trucks, from base model crew cabs to Laramie mega cabs. Finding a clean 3rd gen is getting harder and harder and drove prices into the 30s and even 40s for a mega cab, which the wife and I decided we should focus on for family trips and comfort. I opened up my year range to 2018 trucks and manual transmissions to get me a slightly more raw feel I was looking for. I found a bunch but one stuck out. 2013 Laramie Mega Cab G56 with 103k miles. Two owners, both in Ga. It went through the dealer service, had $3800 in repairs maintenance which is nice but the previous owner switched to a single mass flywheel and Luk upgraded clutch 3k miles ago that causes quite a lot of noise so the dealer was concerned about selling as it sat, they apparently don’t have much experience here. After several videos of the noise and research I made an offer to take the truck as is with no warranty and they accepted. I figured well if they take my offer and it needs a new clutch I’ll be in good shape still. While I was looking for something more simple as far as options I’m very happy to have a very rare truck that still offers a lot of creature comforts. I take delivery Tuesday so don’t have many pictures but will update this when it arrives. It’ll need proper tires immediately as well as window tint but I’m excited to get it and save on some money too

Congrats! Sounds like you put a lot of thought into what is really important to you and made an informed decision. Looking forward to seeing more pics.

Thanks. It was really the thread about the 5th gen cab that really got my brain working into what’s necessary. I was originally looking for big horn to get heated seats but this Laramie fell in front of me for similar money.

Isn't that funny, contemplating new made you go old. Somewhat similar for me when thinking about possible changes (such as built-in steps in the fenders and bumper, more likeness to the 1500's, etc) that I would NOT like in 2025,26,27 made me go ahead and get the 23 ahead of those possible changes.

Yup, I was all for the new cab, power wagon blah blah blah and then I saw the increase the TRX is getting and its only a matter of time before the truck I want is $100k. $100k for a truck. Wild. Reassessed everything, sold my 19, pocketed 15k which goes towards to house we are building, dropped payment considerably and didn't give up anything considerable or that matters in the grand scheme of things. Add the manual transmission, win win

How did you get a 5th gen 2500 when they have never been made yet….. looks like you got a decent truck but nothing to worry about with the LUK clutch they are noisy but good usually if its really noisy it is likely from an inexperienced driver dropping the clutch and killing the springs

4.5 gen! Hahaha

The clutch was converted to a single mass flywheel from dual mass so its noisy when clutch pedal is out. The clutch is brand new. The dealer pulled everything to replace the throw out bearing as they just don’t understand what exactly they’re dealing with which is fine with me, it allowed me to get a better deal. Even if I need a clutch I’m in good money area.

Single mass is better anyway so you are better off but they usually dont add much noise

Wondering what was the cost?

Hmm, based on my research they do. I even reached out to southbend and local diesel shop with the video. They both said that’s normal for single mass flywheel. Southbend did say theirs is a little noisier due to the dual disks

38k. They were asking 41k. Comparable options were mid 40s to 50s but that number also includes 3500s and strictly mega cabs. Big horns were low 40s. Crew cab tradesman were all over the map but you have more options of colors, years and availability.

The sound is likely the gear rattle which can be louder with a single mass but the flywheel itself wont add noise you could throw some Lucas in the trans to stop the gear rattle.

Guess I should have worded it better. Yes the flywheel won’t dampen the noise like the dual mass one will. I plan on replacing the fluid as soon as I take delivery to the Delvac 50wt or Amsoil or Royal Purple. There’s several people recommended to lower the gear roll over noise
