Wife saw a TRX in the parking lot at Costco Sunday and said why didn’t you get a truck like that? I said it was not what I needed to pull equipment. Got me thinking a buddy has a 2500 that would let me borrow any time I need. Found a 2021 with 36k miles on it for $79k. What are the thoughts out there?

I think I wouldn't rely on someone else's truck to move my things if I needed to move them more than I'd be comfortable renting a truck for the occasion for.
Agree, same for trailers, I would never ask and would decline if offered. Appreciate my friends so much but I just don't feel right about it. Just the inconvenience that is involved with estimates, repairs, rentals during repair, etc. I wouldn't want to put anyone through that if I had an accident while borrowing.
The TRX is not really intended as a tow vehicle, and when you say "pull equipment" my brain automatically goes beyond 1500 level and jumps straight to 3500.

If you need to borrow something once....it's fine....if you need to borrow it a second time....it's time to get your own.....

In the world of trucks....letting your wife make decisions is rarely a good idea.....unless she's a truck driver and you're an accountant....

The TRX is a toy. Either you want a toy or you want a truck. I have a 3500 and a Rubicon 392. Toys have a ton of compromises and get tiring when living with them on a daily basis.
Well said, the Rubicon 392 is a beast (for doing what it was intended for) as is the TRX (for its intended purpose) but you would never seriously consider a heavy tow with the Jeep or TRX, wrong tools for the job.

I can speak to this.

I had a 21 2500 limited, which I loved, and decided to trade for a 22 TRX. I had it for about 14 months and I pull a 14 foot full steel utility trailer, as well as go into the Rockies in winter. The TRX is more than capable in terms of HP and torque and pulls the trailer just as well as a 2500, but your fuel mileage is horrendous, getting at little as 6.5 MPG at times, and demands premium fuel. The truck is extremely complicated, and you have to remember that it's a performance engine and drive train. There are lots to go wrong and, in the end, you won't be able to run high miles without doing the usual wear and tear maintenance on a gas engine, as opposed to a diesel. Thats why I am back to a 23 2500 limited now. Other factors in my decision to go back to the Cummins is ease of finding a shop somewhere that can do repair/maintenance. If the hellcat craps out, there are not too many shops I can go to for diagnosis and repair other than a dealer, which takes 2-3 weeks JUST to look at it. In terms of regular maintenance, you have 5k oil change intervals on the hellcat versus 15k on the diesel, and with 2 fuel filters at the same time, the cost differentiation can be argued.

I really enjoyed the TRX and have nothing negative to say, but the diesel is a long-term truck and, in the end, more efficient for towing.

I have a Mercedes E350 I drive mostly during the week and a 2010 Raptor in the garage. I am going to go drive next week if it is still there.

Oh yeh, that reminds me.....Another issue with the TRX is the stupid rate of theft. Had to install a Ravelco to ensure it would still be there when I came out the next day.

I agree with this. I have a sneaking suspicion, that once the initial fun factor of the TRX wears off, the desire for a real truck will be strong.

This. After I sold my old truck and was waiting for the new order to arrive, I had to rent a 2500 from enterprise. It was like $100 a day. Totally worth it.
