I will be doing a complete fluid change for my 2019 Ram 3500 and would like recommendations on the best type/ manufacturer of all fluids for the truck. I just have 62K miles but the dealer recommended all fluids should be changed per the scheduled maint in manual. That seemed a little too soon to me. I was thinking 100K. I don't pull/haul very often mostly just an everyday driver. 20230120_153830.jpg

Pick any name brand fluid that meets the specs. I used synthetic in all mine. I did all mine at 65k. Just have trans left to do cause I ran out of time.

Front diff and transfer case were ready for sure. Trans doesn’t look bad. But could use it.

I have 24K on mine. About half of that towing. The book requires Aisin trans fluid change every two years but I am nowhere near the required mileage. Was thinking of letting it go another year but concerned about warranty issues.

Have you looked at the recommended intervals in the manual?

Ram doesn’t specify a gear lube interval if you don’t tow/taxi/etc, but I personally dump the OEM gear lube at my first years maintenance since it’s generally accepted that it’s not great lube (thou better on 19+) than it was previously.

I like Amsoil fluids, but anything that meets the requirements should be good.

I swapped my diff fluids at 500 miles and everything on the truck at 30k.

Engine oil - Redline 0W40
Coolant - OEM MOPAR 10 Year (purple coolant)
Transmission fluid - OEM ZF Fluid
Front/Rear Diffs - Redline 75w90
T-case - OEM fluid
P/S - Redline
Brake fluid - Can't remember - some high quality DOT4

I do the oil every 3k and plan on doing all the rest every 30k.

Transmission fluid was serviced along with a new pan/filter assembly.

Why did you make the switch to DOT 4?

*goes to look in manual to see what it calls for*

Well the honest answer is I didn't look and just assumed it took DOT 4 (manual says DOT 3)

Also its just what I usually have lying around and I usually use DOT 4 for everything. It mixes with DOT 3 if needed and has a higher boiling point (typically). Haven't had any problems yet.

Yes it has a higher boiling point, but it also absorbs water easier so it needs to be changed more often… which doesn’t sound like it will be an issue for you.

I plan to flush mine every 2 years, which will usually be every 25-30K miles.

lol yeah no problem. I usually do mine every year - WA state - it rains a lot.

Instead of over paying for the oem tcase fluid you can use amsoil sig series atf fluid...you can get a gallon for $50 instead of a quart....and that's 2 changes....

It’s what I’ve always used, and will continue to use.

I have 9750 miles on my 2020 which is now three years old. I don't plan on changing the Aisin oil until 30,000 miles, disregarding the two year requirement. Yes, they could say that being past two years on an oil change we will not honor the warranty, but I'll take the risk as Aisins don't break.

I made a typo. I have 14K on mine.

Have you heard good or bad on AmSoil products?

I believe Amsoil makes great products but for a person like me who tends to change fluids before they actually "need" doing it doesn't make sense. Its already expensive to do what I do and Amsoil would be even more of a waste.

I do question their claim of 25k on their oil/filter though - I have nothing to back that up but it doesn't pass the gut check.

Having done many UOA’s on Amsoil it honestly comes down to time. If you can pull 25K miles in a year the oil is good for it, but I’ve found the 12 months to be the limitation on oil.

Each individual engine is different too. It took two tries of oil grades in our 4Runner that I was happy with the UOA results after 12 months.

Oh my 05 the stock pistons were much harder on oil than the QSB pistons I put it.

Personally I use 12 months max and OEM mileage max on my last 2 trucks.

I haven’t done any UOA on the 6.7’s thou, as I haven’t felt the need. I just change the oil every 12 months since I’m under 15K miles a year.

EDIT: I’ll add that filtration is also important for the longer intervals. I wouldn’t try it with the stock oil filter, but the Amsoil or Donaldson DBL7349 are great filters for more miles.

Borg Warner Transfer Cases factory ship with Dexron III – Use Dexron III

Analysis lab Report:
“We have a couple samples on file of virgin ATF+4 and Mopar Transfer Case Fluid. In comparing the two, it looks like Mopar uses more calcium, phosphorus, and zinc in its additive package, and some silicon, which is a bit of an unusual find. We think silicon is an anti-foaming additive. As far as the physical properties, the viscosity is nearly identical, so even with the difference in additive packages, we think you'd be okay to try a cheaper oil. We tend not to see a whole lot of difference in wear between different brands, and ATF+4 should get the job done just fine. not to see a whole lot of difference in wear between different brands, and ATF+4 should get the job done just fine.”

So is the transfer case oil just ATF or is it specific transfer case oil?

It’s labeled as a different fluid.

I use Amsoil ATF since it’s synthetic and has both ASRC (Aisin) as well as the BW Mopar fluid part number (x-case) on the bottle.
