I have a 2021 Ram 4500 4x4 work truck, that I purchase new 6/21, really have had no problems at all with the truck.
We do not use the truck every day so it may sit for a couple of weeks till it is needed again.
On 7/19/23 after being parked for a couple of weeks, when cranked it gave the message "Power Steering Unavailable Service Required."
(Basically, it was fine when parked, and broke after being sitting for two weeks)

Steering was hard seemed to have about 1/2 normal power steering. We checked the normal things fluid, belt etc, and everything appeared fine.
Had to take it to a commercial dealership about 40 miles away and drove it there for service.

Dealership determined bad "Steering Gear" and a big $ ouch for the repair!o_O:mad:
Of course, warranty stopped at 36K on the steering box, truck only has 40800 miles on it, still has the original factory tires with 6/32 tread.

I'm kind of torn about this issue, hey you mean I worn out a steering box before I worn out the 1st set of factory tires!
I would be interested in any feedback!

I would get a second opinion.

You must have the electric steering assist? It comes on some trim levels for lane departure I believe.

Truck has the "Safety Group" option that includes

Lane–Keep Assist
and
Adaptive Steering System

disable those systems and see how it performs? I am not familiar with how it attaches to the gear box so it may require hard part removal.

I don’t normally work on my trucks, and unfortunately have to trust the stealership. I do suspect they are really nothing more than over priced parts changers, and maybe no real troubleshooting has been done. I plan to go by there in the morning!
