Loud Clutch Fan?

I’ve never had a fan stick on a small Cummins, but have at work on my isx. Truck hovered around 165 and another cat we have if the manual switch is on it won’t even get hot enough to regen.
They may have thermostat issues or really low opening thermostats or the thermostats removed. With the thermostat closed the rad gets no flow the coolant just circulates in the block/ egr cooler and heater core lines

Hey guys, I have a new 2022 Ram 2500 diesel. With the AC on and very low speeds, first gear I believe, the clutch fan is extremely loud. It isn't like a roaring noise either it is more of a loud whine. Once the speed picks up and it gets into a higher gear it goes away, but when starting from a dead stop it almost sounds like something is wrong. Has this happened to anyone else? Truck has 1,400 miles so I thought maybe it has to break in some?
My 2023 Ram heavy duty does the same thing.

Magnify by 11 and it’s my X15s at work

My 22’ I got back on May 3rd this year is pretty loud also when first cranked with the a/c on. I noticed it will kick in when driving in town but doesn’t come on going down the road. Haven’t had a chance to put it in a bind yet but hoping to shortly. I had to have the fan clutch replaced on my previous 18’ at 527 miles. I would rather hear it engage from time to time than not engage when it is really needed.

These fans are loud, they are supposed to be. The amount of CFM they are made move is impressive.

I would be far more concerned if your fan was quiet on a HD diesel truck.

My 2014 did this same thing, but it wasn't the same sound. it sounded like the garbage trucks and my daughter who was like 6 said, "Daddy, your truck sounds just like the big garbage trucks!" haha

My 2022 does it, it's 100% normal. Moves some air. But it is kind of obnoxious isn't it.

I love that fan sound when it's really pushing the CFM!! Sounds like a jet coming down my street. Keeps the neighbor kids on their toes when they're playing in the cul de sac.

I don’t care so much that it’s loud but mine is locked on all the time now. Doesn’t matter if I just start it or if I am at a cool 185… it runs constantly. 2022 so I will be calling the stealership to have them check it out.

Are you using the A/C?

I've definitely had opportunity to hear and observe mine in action again this week.

Pulling some grades Taos to Santa Fe, the coolant temp would climb to 219 (?) and I could hear the fan from the cab at 70MPH and temps would drop as much as 10 degrees or more very quickly. That thing moves a lot of air. Truck normally runs in the 203F range empty or light pulling.

FWIW, this trip was the highest I've ever seen the Aisin go in stop-n-go town traffic after some hard pulls and hit 183F. It settled back down to ~172F even pulling hills (should be in lockup unless shifting) with the usual 167-169F all other times.

It’s kinda hard to slip in or out of a campground when that fan engages. We just returned from Taos this morning. Only time the fan engaged fully was when we stopped. Temp never got above 210 and transmission temperature 172. It was 106 when we crossed Texas on I-20.

If your A/C is on and not enough air across the condenser then the fan will hit full lock up too

FWIW, I had a loud "Rrrrrrrrrr"ing sound a couple months ago.
Got louder when pressing the accelerator;

Turns out it was a loose fitting in the Power Steering Line, causing a leak.

was your "rrrrring" not going away after you were above 35-45 mph? My truck does the same thing the OP stated in his post. Its definitely a fan I hear on my truck, again as the AC is on, and after the truck gets above 40ish mph, it goes away. Just curious if your noise never went away no matter how fast you got going? Reason I ask, is a few times that fan has stayed on for about 10 min, even if I am cruising down the hwy at 75 mph.
