Mobil 1 or Castrol 0W40 for 6.4?

I'm new to the HEMI and the 6.4... but I see people saying oil X helped with Y.
But it does seem that most agree that a high Moly content seems to work best.
All I know is that I ran AMSoil in both previous vehicles and got 186K out of the Accord and 135K out of the Dakota with zero engine issues.
I'm with you on Amsoil, and I was an Amsoil retailer. Sold tons of it, so definitely not an Amsoil hater. But when I put AZF in my 6.4 the results "spoke" for themselves. I was amazed and disappointed. My wife's car still has Amsoil in it, and I will probably use SVG when I do my diffs. AZF was a new product at the time, so perhaps they have reformulated it since then.

Ouch. Sort of scary to me with Amsoil. I purchased my 6.4 3 days ago. And when I asked the dealer what oil they use on the 6.4. He said they use “mopar 0w-40” which is Rotella 0w-40. And it’s great for the 6.4s. Anyone heard or been told the same?

I don't know about Rotella, but I was more under the impression that it was the SRT oil, which is Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, AKA PUP 0W40. PUP is very good oil. As I have stated before, if you are fortunate enough to get a Hemi that doesn't tick run PUP, or whatever good oil you like. If you have the misfortune to get a ticker, then seek out Red Line.

Nope... they just did my oil change and they used PUP

Danger Will Robinson! Rotella is formulated for diesels. I received the same statement from my local RAM dealer. They no longer touch my truck.

My dealer said the same. Took it in for first oil change last week. They pulled out a box of penzoil 0w-40 and poured in 7 qts. Haha. Just watch them the first time and make sure they’re using the correct oil. Good luck

My performance went in the dumper. I changed oil and filter within a couple of hundred miles. Still doesn’t feel right . Should have taken a sample. Decided I will change filter only every 3500 miles. Change oil every 7K. Due to less than ideal filter size and my use.

Did a oil change on mine a last week or so using Amsoil. Idk if I like it or not.....

The issue with performance was the air filter. No way it will make recommended life for me. Soon as I changed it the truck woke up. There were no codes. Must be the new intake design. The air box was very dirty. I live in the lower Columbia Basin. I didn’t have this issue with the older style systems.

How many miles did you make it before the filter went to ****? Do you drive on gravel roads a lot? Just asking so I have an idea how often I should be checking mine.

I noticed a drop in mileage around 5K miles. I drive about 75 miles a day round trip to work. We do get a lot of wind with dust in it. Also some AG debris from the fields. I am mostly on pavement. In comparison to the 2007 2500HD with a 5.7L there is considerably more bugs, chaff, and dirt below the filter in the air box. I now change based on drop in mileage and performance falling off. I change oil and air filter around 7K and oil filter every 3500 miles. This is due to an article I read somewhere that the size of the original oil filter planned for these was downsized to provide clearance for the new radiator design. The oil stays much cleaner longer.
