'21 - Passive Entry Strange Behavior - Key FOB Settings Don't Apply to Passenger Door

I did a search and found the same problem similarly described, but the solution isn't the real fix as far as I'm concerned: Passive entry doesn't unlock rear driver side door unless set on All Doors, but Passenger will unlock All Doors if set on Driver Only?
I asked this question on another forum and they said their 1500 does the same. There probably isn't a fix and this is probably normal, just want to confirm because it seems ridiculous.

Problem
- With the setting '1st Press of Key Fob Opens Driver Only'
* When I grab the driver Driver Front door handle, the passive entry unlocks: Driver Front Only
* When I grab the Passenger Front door handle, the Passive Entry unlocks: ALL DOORS

- With the setting '1st Press of Key Fob Opens All Doors'
* When I grab either Driver Front or Passenger Front, the passive entry unlocks: ALL DOORS

So I like the KEY FOB only opening the Driver Front with one press, but it's ridiculous that in this setting, the Passenger Front can open all doors when the Driver Front won't (via Passive Entry). I mean the whole point is for safety, so I may be missing something entirely here. I'm not necessarily looking for a solution, but I'd like to know if other Ram's have the same issue and avoid the Dealer again..

Dealer: So a couple of weeks ago I took it in for some warranty work (Mobile Connectivity Failed on UConnect, requiring new UConnect components), and showed them this issue. Once the UConnect components were replaced, they could not replicate the issue and kept it 2 additional days to try and get the issue to repeat. Once I got it home and adjusted all the settings back from default, I realized they couldnt replicate it because the default was set to open ALL DOORS so they never saw the problem again. I called back today and explained what it's doing and now I have an appointment. If this is normal, I'd like to not waste my time with an appointment and getting rides...

TIA!

This is exactly how my 2020 2500 behaves. I have never given it a thought, as my 2015 1500 did the same, my wife's 2017 Durango does the same, and I can't recall 100%, but am pretty sure my previous Toyota and Hyundai vehicles with passive entry behaved the same way.

That's how my '21 works.
And other cars I've had in the past do the same.
1st unlock is driver door only, second unlock or open passenger door and it unlocks all of them.

Thanks for that info. I'm going to cancel the appointment... really disappointed the dealer doesn't understand this and previously kept the truck for 2 days trying to find something wrong. I don't remember if my '22 did this or not, would love to hear from someone that has '22.

I guess it was assumed if you're going to the passenger door you don't need that safety feature.

Correct, but there is no second unlock for passive entry.

Correct, so think of drivers door as first unlock and passenger door as second unlock.

It makes sense what it’s doing, the driver isn’t opening the drivers door so what would the purpose of unlocking the drivers door be? So it unlocks all of them.

driver isn’t opening the drivers door
I understand that as well. I just did not expect that the passive entry would match what I ask the key fob to do. It makes sense why they are connected, but leaves no option to unlock the driver rear when Key Fob mode is driver door on first press.

So I think of the 3rd gen where there was no passive entry. Click unlock once, it unlocked the driver, click unlock twice it opened the rest. Now that we have passive, I still prefer that logic but now never use the key fob anymore which locks me into 1 of 2 options

1) All doors unlock every time
2) Only the driver door, unless I go to the passenger first, then it unlocks them all.

End of the day, I place my stuff in the driver rear and I'm required to open the door and press the unlock button, use my key fob and press it twice, or set it to all doors and they all unlock 100% of the time.

Not the end of the world, just annoying. One would think a second grab of the handle would suffice as the 'Second Press of Key Fob" and that's really what this comes down to.

I’m not with my truck right now, but it pretty sure if you grab the drivers door handle twice in driver door first mode it will unlock all 4 doors.

That's what I would expect, mine however just unlocks the driver door again. I'm hoping someone says their does what you describes so I can get it fixed
