2022 Aisin Failure Tracking Sheet

I have a 2022 ram cab-chassis with aisin also - should I be worried or get extended warranty - my truck only has 3200 miles - bought new from dealer in lavonia ga back in june of 2022 - I have pulled farm tractor few times - skid steer 7-8 times and 12000 lb fifth wheel 3 times - so not alot of use but I use it mainly for pulling - had one oil change so far and truck is just like the day i bought it - has CM flatbed on it . love the truck - is there anything I need to do or look for ? I am a first time ram owner - had ford and GM diesels - but first cummins I have owned so far so good - but after reading here - a little worried now.

Unfortunately there’s nothing you can look for or do to identify if yours has a potential issue. There are no warning signs to indicate the possibility for the failure. The best I can offer is the info on the spreadsheet. What is the build date and Aisin serial number for your truck? Most of the failures happen under 10k miles but there have been ones that fail much higher. I suppose an extended warranty wouldn’t be unreasonable but at the same time that’s spending a lot of extra money on something you may never need. I just wish we could get to a point where “they” would just start a proactive campaign to address the trucks preemptively rather than waiting for them to fail.

I think build date is on driver door panel - where do I find the Aisin serial number, Rams are still new to me - need a little help !! - I will look again - but I believe build date is 4-2022 I believe my truck came from mexico - maybe they all do - Im not sure. just what the dealer said.

All Ram HD trucks are manufactured in Saltillo Mexico. Your build date is on the data sticker on the driver door. It’ll say “Date of manufacture(build)” The Aisin serial number is on a blue stamped metal tag on the side of the transmission itself. The tag will say “Aisin Drivetrain Inc” and will contain a six character serial number that looks like “XX-XXXX”. See image below:IMG_0972.jpeg

I decided and pulled the trigger on a 2023 RV with 2022 Ram 5500 Cab Chassis. Couldn't wait on the one with the 2021 chassis as the heater grid recall seems the lowest priority on the 2021. Now that I'm going through the purchase process, any suggestions you may have? I did a VIN Scan, and it has a AS69RC HD TRANS. The truck states August 22 build. Not sure the buid date/serial number on the transmission. Dodge dealer is telling RV dealer there is no TSB on the VIN for the truck?

August is definitely a higher failure month, but I think most were in sep-oct

I wonder if all the build date of the Aisins are in line with the truck build date? The spreadsheet doesn't seem to have too much info on the transmission build dates (the ones that have it seem to be very close the the same month as the truck build date). The TSB seems to only address the issue once the light comes on and the damage is done unless I read it wrong.

The transmissions are usually manufactured in the same month, or one month prior to the truck being assembled. The TSB is reactive, not proactive. Which has been the case from the very start, or at least up until the TSB was revised and updated to include an RSU (rapid service update) on March 8th 2023. When RSU 23-065 was launched, from my understanding, ram uploaded unsold 2022 VIN numbers to their DealerCONNECT database and urged dealers to check there for unsold inventory ViN’s. If they had any on their lot, they were urged to take the trucks in to their shop and apply the TSB repair prior to selling the trucks. There were quite a few unsold 2022’s that were stuck in stop-sale status due to the grid heater relay recall. It’s unclear how many, but from the discussions I have had with new owners, at least some of the dealerships did indeed follow the RSU and repair the trucks preemptively. Unfortunately it seems like, once the truck is sold, there’s no way to identify if it does or does not fall under the umbrella of having the faulty part. Which is likely why the dealer is telling the RV manufacturer there’s nothing found for the ViN.

Unfortunately there’s so little solid information with all of this it’s hard to pin anything down. There’s really no way, as far as I know, to identify trucks specifically. I’ve just been going by the data I collect. August September and October 22 built trucks are the most prevalent on the spreadsheet by far. September and October make up almost 70% of the trucks for which I have build dates.

I wish I could get more data from some owners but folks do not always return to update me.

August - September - October are the most common by far.

Well, add me to the list! '22 HO with 5000 miles. Information added to the excel sheet. The transmission quit while pulling away from a stop sign with a light trailer. Reverse worked as advertised, and sometimes the truck would slowly get moving forward from an initial creep after cycling gears a few times. The truck went into the shop on May 2nd and was diagnosed for warranty repair on the 5th. I need to call them for more details, but they cited clutch failure and the TSB. Parts on order with some on back order. More to follow.

Just added you to the sheet. Please send me the trucks date of manufacture and the transmission serial number when you’re able. Thanks!
Has your dealer diagnosed it yet?

Not yet. Just send them the service sheets I founded here. I just got rid of a 2022 RAM 1500 limited because of transmission lag. My other truck had 15,000 miles and was as it's 3rd transmission.

And now this is hapenning with a brand new one.

Afternoon. life has been a little busy. Attached is trans tag and mfg date.
Got the truck back on 4/21/23. trans was rebuilt new clutch kit, valve body, and pan ( pan had been taken on and off the truck so many times that it started to seep at the seal, Chrysler said to order a new one)
Truck runs good, got it back with 6752 miles so they did drive it, shifts fine put about 60 miles on it since i got it back. no towing yet. truck was down. 57 days without truck.
no issues with dealer.

Dealer confirmed it is the same code as in the service sheet. So it's the snap ring. They said 40 open days for delivery of the parts. So I guess they're gonna try and repair it!

I’ll get you on the sheet.
Just need the typical information on there.
1. Date you ordered the truck (if applicable)

2. Date of manufacture (See sticker on driver door for "date of manufacture (Build date))

3. Date you purchased the truck

4. Mileage on odometer at the time of failure

5. Serial Number of failed transmission (see blue stamped metal tag on side of the transmission. It will be something like "2H-2345"

6. Serial Number of replacement transmission (if applicable)

7. Were you towing at the time of failure?

8. Did 1st through 4th gear work?

9. Did reverse work?

10. What date did the transmission fail?

11. When was the truck returned to you after repair?

12. Did your dealer replace the transmission with a new unit or was the failed transmission repaired with parts?
