Battery replacement 2020 Cummins

Verdict: after the batteries were changed I reset the color theme of the display and drove home, stopping twice. By the time I got home (about 45 min and two restarts) things were still missing. Today, about 24 hrs later after sitting all night and half the day, the color theme of the display was back to the default, but all the apps were back and everything works as expected. The fact that the display theme had reverted, again, seems to be evidence that the system must have been reset (again) overnight as it phoned home and configured itself to match the systems on the truck (ie air suspension, etc)

Thanks everyone for the reassurance, saved a trip to the dealer.

If you’re careful you can do one at a time (if equipped with 2) or put a trickle charger on the cables to keep the memory from resetting if it’s a big inconvenience for anyone changing batteries in the future.

I'm glad you posted that flan. I was curious as to why not do one at a time.

I had to disconnect my batteries over night. Because I was using my neighbor shop to do a mode on my truck. Since there is a recall on my 2022 Ram Laramie that the truck can catch fire, I disconnect both batteries. I have the 12inch display uconnect. When I reconnect the batteries I didn't notice any issues from sitting over night. Yesterday when I went out for a long drive on the hwy, I was talking through the radio and the system did a rest on me. It took approximately 2 mins after that everything was fine.

There’s a bit of risk involved with the hot positive lead dangling around while your swapping out, but with precautions I’ve pulled it off.

Our 2500 is a dual battery system and this is exactly why I opted to just disconnect both. I wasn’t confident in the Auto Parts guy not bumping the hot lead and getting it across part of the body during the swap. I’m glad I made that decision, getting those batteries in and out of those tight quarters was a challenge and not having to worry about a hot positive lead was one less thing. It all worked out.

Yea some auto parts dude I would not trust. I have some thick ass electrical tape I used on the hot side. A piece of old bike tire inner tube slid over would be helpful as well.
