Question to those who pull 5th wheel campers with a short bed RAM and a Pullrite superglide hitch: When hooked up, are you higher than the manufacturer’s height (i.e., in my case 13 ft 4 inches). Our measured height hitched is 13 ft 9 inches. The rear has very little ground clearance and the front sticks up higher than spec.
What have people here done to lower the height of their trucks/rigs? I know I can raise the pin box about 2.5” that will lower the nose of the camper. I cannot adjust the hitch per PullRite. I also have Airlift bags installed.

Any help would be appreciated.

From the pic it looks like you have plenty of cap to bed rail clearance so I’d raise the pin box up 2.5”. Be sure to measure first, you want to have at least 6” of clearance.

Lowering your pin box will help.... Are you sure about the 13'9 inches? You won't be driving any highways with that. I'm worried about the same issue... Just waiting for my hitch to come in and set up with my new 2022 3500.

I measured the camper while it was level on the jacks-13’6”. I them taped a line to the underside of the nose that touched the ground. When I hooked up to leave, the line had come up 3”. I drove from NH to Cape Charles, VA and back taking highways. The lowest bridge we went under was posted at 13’10”. I have 8 1/2” clearance from underside of the nose to bed rails.

Well...another Granitestater!

We lived in Dover and then Bartlett for 35 years... before deciding that mountain living was too much work. You drove right past us here in Bethany Beach

If you measured after auto level, I have found that, at least on my Lippert level up, it raises the entire trailer as part of the leveling process.

For comparison, I just set up my 2022 Ram 3500 4x4 CCLB. Curt Q25 hitch and puck system. My measured height to the top of the front ac on my 2021 Solitude 310GK at it's high point was 13'2ish. The book height on my Solitude says 13'6... Which it clearly isn't.

I know that your slider adds height and lowering the pin box is the only option there without changing hitches... at least as far as I know.

I call mine 13'4 for safety sake and because I'm paranoid I avoid anything lower than 13'6. I measured it twice. My rig is slightly nose high and I have 6-7 inches bed rail clearance.

I would try another measurement hooked up and level with all jacks retracted and see if you get the same thing.

On edit... I just looked at your pic again. Your rear jacks look like they are pretty low. Have you tried running a string from the back of the rear tire where the tread meets the road to the back bottom of the rear frame? If the string doesn't clear the jack then your jack will hit before your frame bottoms out. A potential problem on hilly rr crossings etc.

You may also get some good info on the Montana owners forums. The joys of camping, right!

Regarding your back jacks, you should be able to unbolt them and raise them up to get more clearance. That of course means they won't have as much raising ability when you are leveling .. but just use blocks. Feel free to pm me if I can help.

@decelt Thanks for the reply and info. I never considered that the auto-level would raise the entire camper however, now that you mention, it makes sense. I raised the pin box and after measuring rail to nose clearance, I still have 8.5”.
I thought about raising the rear jacks but the top of the jack motor is only about 1/2” from touch the underside of the camper.
I just sold my Harley, so I decided to bight the bullet and buy a #2315 PullRite. Once it comes in and I get it mounted, I’ll hitch up and remeasure from a level piece of asphalt.

Thought you’d want to know that the NH State bird, Black Flies, are out in great numbers this year. I’m sure you miss them

I think that may have caused your height reading. Keep us posted on the results!

Yeah, we really miss the black flies, but we spend summers up there so we get to see a few!

People down here scream if they see a skeeter... An inch of snow shuts them down for days

Good luck and happy towing!

It looks to me that your rear axile on the trailer is holding a lot more weight than the front. Which will cause the rear bearings to ware out faster. If you can raise the pin box I would do it. Looks like you have plenty of room. I’m using the Curt Q20 with the slider and I have the same problem. I will not drive under 13’6’’ bridge. my set up is as low as I can go. With about 9 inches of bed clearance. I need to drop it 2.5’’ doing so I would need to get rid of slider or try another pin box. The slider has gotten me out of a couple of predicaments, so it is useful in my opinion. I’m pulling a 42’ 5er btw.
