Annoying as heck. Please allow us to turn it off. Like others have said, especially when hooking up a trailer. I find myself just leaving the door open to avoid it.

Hey everyone,

We'd love to get your opinion on how you feel about the Key Left Vehicle Feature otherwise known as the Three Horn Chirp, or the horn that sounds when you've left your Key Fob inside of your truck or when your truck is left running without the Key Fob inside.
the worst feature ever invented for those, like me, that hate it. Ok so it's a feature made by some pencil sharpening guy in the office that obviously rides a bicycle to work. This feature enabled by the powers at be, should of also been released with the ability to be easily disabled in the user interface. So now I'm glad I purchased the truck with the VSIM module, and used @mountainears flawless writeup to disable the feature. Big shout out to @mountainears, thank you!!! Ram, you need to have some back-bone when features like this are being pushed down your throat from the government or standards bodies or whomever thought this was a must have requirement. Talk about not understanding how most customers keeps their keys in their pocket......gee whiz louise...now after being disabled, my 6am neighbors, strangers and fellow campers thank me!

This feature didn't get "pushed down" by anyone outside of Ram (Stellantis) itself. There are no legal requirements to have something like this. I'm sure some engineer said, "you know, if the passenger walks away from the running truck with the keys and then the driver drives off they won't be able to restart it, we should come up with some kind of warning for that." It sounds totally logical on paper, but they just failed to test it in the real world and realize it should be an option.

It’s not a Sellantis thing. As others have mentioned Ford and others have it but it seems it can be disabled. And while there doesn’t seem to be a safety regulation currently (I’m no expert on that though) it does seem there is work being done to establish something and it may be that some manufacturers are moving on it ahead of those standards. An example of why is in the article below, and I’m guessing there are other types of examples where people were killed doing something and the industry reacts to try and solve with a safety feature. No mfg wants to be that one that killed someone regardless of how it happened.

I've got the perfect answer then. Scrap the keyless shti on HD trucks and just give us a keyed ignition switch again. I'd rather have a key anyway. That way I always know exactly where my fob is. Win/win.

I don’t mean Stellantis invented it, just that it wasn’t a Ford engineer that decided to put it in a Ram.

I doubt it was intended as a safety feature in the case of the HD trucks. No one is getting
out of one that’s running and not realizing it.

Many people, including myself, consider keyless ignition to be a hard requirement. I’ll never buy another (new) vehicle without it. It’s way too much of a convenience. And yes, I like my convenience features. If I didn’t I’d buy a truck from 1985.

I cant imagine it intended as anything but a safety feature.

It’s a meh feature. I usually keep a door open if I’m going to jump out for a moment, so it doesn’t beep. Just draws unnecessary attention, if nothing else.

Installed this Time delay relay connected to the VSIM on my truck. Using the "run" sense wire to power the relay and the "any door open" signal to trigger the relay. As soon as door opens the relay opens. I cut the power wire going to the horn and routed it to the relay NC side. Horn works, but is disabled when a door is open.

My truck did not have the VSIM from factory, I bought the module and installed it along with the harnesses. Then used AlphaOBD to enable the VSIM. SO I have about $200 in parts added to truck to disable the horn chirp only when door is open. But now I also have the VSIM to control anything else I want... a cheap win/win.

I like that one.

Isn’t there a horn kill feature on the VISM?

No. But there is a horn trigger in the VSIM which is what I used in my method.

Sounds like the difference between the two is one disables the horn completely when the door is opened. The other switches the horn trigger to the VSIM when the car is running and the BCM when the car is off. Two approaches.

Modified response. There is Black 16 that when grounded mutes the horn during panic alarm, vehicle theft Alan and normal horn functions. Does not mute the horn during RKE locking function.

I didn’t try that one to see if it applied to the 3 horn chirp.

If that works to mute the horn chirp then taking the VSIM door open signal to a time delay relay and then to the horn mute might make a nice non-invasive solution.

You can use this page VSIM information and pinout to identify the wire, the signal type, and when it is active

Brown connector pin 13 to ground kills the horn. So I will have to give that a try. If it works, then no reason to cut and re-route horn harness.

I can confirm that it works. Just using the VSIM wirea (start/run wire for power; any door open for trigger; horn panic disable) absolutely kills the horn only when fob leaves the truck. My timer is set to an 8 second countdown. After that horn goes back to normal.

Horn works when truck is off so you have lock feedback. So, if you have a VSIM just buy the relay I posted earlier.

I’m still liking my version :-). Horn button always works, just in case. It is a little more work though but it is nice that the VSIM can be added if you don’t have it and there are a variety of solutions.
