This notice says that 2022 camera won't work on a 2023 truck however I dont believe them....

Didn't someone here hook up the wired tow mode camera from <2023 and put it on a 2023 truck and it worked?

If you are that person can you please chime in?

ANSWER:

@Jimmy07 sent over a 2022 camera to try on the 2023 truck and the results were not great.

When plugging in the <=2022 camera to the 2023 truck the mirror tried to switch over to it and it gave an error on the mirror and in the digital dash. I also tried unplugging the RVM camera all together and using that input, no dice.

I'm curious about this too. If anyone has tried this, I would love to know the results. And if nobody has tried this yet, is there anyone in the Altanta area with a 22 tow mode camera that would let me try it on my 23?

I know you're asking specifically about the tow mode camera that shows on the rear view mirror. But if that doesn't work out, it's looking like older camera systems designed to display on the center screen still work. On my truck the "Aux 1" worked without any modifications. The 360 trailer cam required enabling in AlfaOBD and the installation of a Gateway (CAN isolation) module. These won't show video full time while driving, but should be useful while backing up at campsites and gas stations.

I did some investigating and I could be wrong but I think since that notice I posted above came out they didn't ever actually make the new tow mode camera... I think that's what we saw as an issue with all the vehicles that had it and were told to take it off but then some shipped anyway.

I think they originally were going to make a new one, didn't happen, then they tried to cancel all the tow modes, and then someone said why not just ship them the 22 one because we didn't change anything.

And boom we are here today and I ordered a 22 tow mode camera from one of the many Mopar sites. Hopefully it shows up soon.

I recall @Jimmy07 saying that even the standard DRVM camera won’t work with a 22 camera due to a new processing box. He can probably clarify.

I have since verified that all 2023’s equipment with DRVM use the new 3.0 digital mirror and a camera processor under the driver seat.
The cameras that the 2023 mirror use are a different part number that the cameras used for the 2021-2022 digital mirror.
@CortexM0, I do have a spare 2022 DRVM camera and cable you can borrow to test out on your camera processor to verify whether or not a 22 camera will work on a 23 DRVM.

Thanks for the offer. If we don't have an answer soon, I may take you up on that. But it sounds like @pr3dict may have already ordered one, and hopefully will soon be able to let us know if it works or not.

I ordered 68527599AA (the original) but who knows when thats going to show up. I just messaged Jimmy to try and steal the offer from you to test and then send it back haha.

When I lookup 68586112AA on the Mopar sites a lot of them say "discontinued"

@phatboy64 - You got a tow-mode camera w/ your 23, right? Does it have a part number on it?

How did this work out? I saw on another thread you said "The test was not promising..." I'm assuming this means you plugged it in and it didn't work. Did you try anything else?

Sorry- I figured Jimmy was going to update the pack... When plugging in the <=2022 camera to the 2023 truck the mirror tried to switch over to it and it gave an error on the mirror and in the digital dash. I also tried unplugging the RVM camera all together and using that input, no dice.

Hopefully we can order that 2023 camera, though I don't need 75 feet of cable lol.

No go. I had him disconnect the blue connector from the DRVM processor under the driver seat (trailer input). At that point, no change in the image on the mirror display (expected).
Once my camera was plugged into that input, the mirror did try to automatically switch to the detected tow mode camera like it normally would, but could not display the image of the 2022 DRVM camera.

Thanks for the updates. That's disappointing, but good to know.

I saw a few posts indicating that for the 2022s, the camera used in the tow mode camera was the same as the one mounted in the CHMSL. So I thought it might be worth a try to connect the CHMSL camera to the trailer connection on the DRVM processor in my 2023. First I disconnected both the CHMSL and trailer connectors from the processor module. Next I verified that both of these camera inputs were supplying the same voltage (8.5 volts). Then I removed the shroud from the CHMSL connector, and plugged the coax into the trailer position. Unfortunately, this did absolutely nothing. The system didn't even recognize that anything had been plugged in.

I was hoping this would work. Then we could have purchased the CHMSL camera and made our own tow mode camera system.

So has anyone been successful in getting this damn part ordered? Everyone I've spoken to says it was discontinued 12/2022. Did I pay for that dumb reverse trailer knob to have a mirror that doesnt actually do what they advertised it to do lol?

Maybe try seeing if the individual parts from the kit are available:

As far as parts availability, almost all parts that are new to the 2023 HD Rams are on some kind of backorder or not priced or available yet. I’ve been trying to order parts to swap in the new telescoping mirrors for months.

I found a dealership that had four 2023 2500s on the lot with the tow mode camera. I drove there and tried to talk them into selling me one of the cameras, but they wouldn't even consider it (unless I bought the whole truck). However, they did let me take a look at one. I can verify they do exist and 68586112AA is the correct part number.

Also they should have made a version with a suction cup mount for the camera. The fact that you need to mount these things on the trailers is redic when the list price per camera is close to $1000.

Even if you can't buy it anywhere haha

I’m mounting one on a dump trailer and I’m thinking about securing the camera to a heavy duty magnet base so I can just stick it in place and remove it from the door when I need to as it may be in the way during some operations. Suppose something like that could be done to move it from trailer to trailer as long as one of your trailers is not aluminum :-)

I have a 2022 ram 3500 limited. It has the 12 pin connector the aux 1 and two camera options are there and I have the digital backup mirror. How can I tell if I'm able to make use of the trailer 360 cameras if I can get them?
