Anybody Have Any Issues with the new HD's yet?

Why do you keep your hand on handle
When closing tailgate? Maybe you were pressing the button to open as you were closing?
On the def, were you running your 1100 miles with your exhaust break on? Some dealers say run with it always on, and the. It will use some def, but I only have it on when towing my rv. Just a few thoughts.

My hand was just there to open it. Closing it was using my palm. Doesn't matter how I position my hand(s). One handed.....two handed, braced left or braced right, still the same thing. The right side is more likely to not latch than the left. Several times, the left side latches and the right side doesn't seem to. Definitely aware of the release switch and made sure I wasn't accidentally touching it. I think the position of my hand on several of the missed latches shows my fingers weren't in a position where they could touch the button. The frustrating thing is there's really no rhyme or reason as to why it latches sometimes and why it doesn't other times. Force also isn't a clear and direct affect. Gentle, moderate or slamming.....same random success/failure rate.

Dealer said that unless a code is thrown, there is nothing they can do about DEF usage rate and said its in the normal range. They could not tell me what FCA or Cummins determines is a normal rate. Truck had the VB6 "Campaign" performed on it 2/18/20 or 2 months before I purchased it off the dealer's lot.

P.S. Why disable comments on your videos? Sure, there will be some ahole comments, but perhaps you would get some useful advice.

I'll leave comments for the forums but it didn't hurt to ask. I would expect the most useful advice here.

I have seen the figure of approx 2% of fuel usage as DEF use rate. Plus or minus depending on miles loaded/pulling vs empty.

Uses 1 gallon of DEF per 100 miles driven (11 gallons put in in 1160 miles)
DEF gauge reads incorrectly
DEF system threw P203E code

These 3 problems were originally fixed in TSB 18-052-19-REV-A. You should ask the dealer to update the PCM to the latest version.

EDIT: I see that you had the update for recall VB6 installed, but it should have fixed those issues.

Hello, group! I have been a member on the other forum for years and just joined here. Having a lot of issues on my new 2019 and am woefully disappointed. Longtime Dodge/Ram Cummins owner here. I apologize that my first post here is dumping on the HD Rams. I'm hoping to get all of this behind me but not having much luck. I'm only posting this to try and help others know they aren't alone. Wouldn't recommend a new '19 or '20 Ram 2500 or 3500 to my worst enemy but would love to point them towards something '18 or older.

Here's what I have on my 2019 with 1169 miles:

Hood Vibation/Flopping issue
VIDEO HERE

Tailgate won't close/latch about half of the time.

HVAC screams but not much air output to speak of

Uses 1 gallon of DEF per 100 miles driven (11 gallons put in in 1160 miles)

DEF gauge reads incorrectly

DEF system threw P203E code

Just got the truck back from the dealer and was told all is normal and some BS about not filling DEF above 3/4.
VIDEO HERE (sorry it's a bit long but shows tailgate, HVAC and DEF issues)

Maybe someone at FCA can help us fix these issues
. Apparently I'm far from the only one having these problems.

Hi @M Penwald - I am deeply sorry to hear of your ownership experience and I just wanted to follow up here to let you know that I just had a chance to follow up with your private message on this topic. Please follow up with me there when you can.

Please let us know what you find out on the rattle noise. I am about to go over all the bed mounts, etc.. I ordered factory direct out of Austin.
I have 2019 tradesman 6.7 3500 also had rattle sounded like it was by passenger rear seat. I put in baby car seat and tighten to the rear latch hooks on passenger side and noise went away.

My rear middle seat belt ratcheting mechanism failed. Part is back ordered, hopefully will be in within a week. Kind of a bummer bc I have three kiddos and until this is fixed I can't take them in the truck. I have a 2019 2500 with 14K miles. (I"m referring to the feature of when installing car seats you pull the seat belt all the way out, then it "clicks and locks" as you pull it tight for the car seat. Just an FYI for other's with kids to keep an eye on it.

I didn’t even know they did that in the first place! Learn something new every day!

If your car seats have the top strap and LATCH setup, why not use that? One thing I learned was that the belt loop behind the seat isn't where they get latched. You have to run the belt through the loop to the next one over. Middle position can go to either side. That said, I do double up and use the vehicle shoulder belt in addition the the others but I mostly keep just the one seat installed for my grandson.

I also recommend seat protectors. I got one from Lusso that's working great to keep the indentations limited on the Limited.

Update on AC and sorry if this is not new. I had my long time mechanic take a look at my 3500 HO AC. Short story is the EVAP sensor is at 39 but the air in the duct is 60 degrees or so. It does cycle less if on max AC setting but somehow the ECM is not putting the 2 temps together. He is sure it is a simple software fix but nothing he can do. He was curious if anyone that has a Tradesman with a Cummins in hot areas(100 plus) is having any problems. Less computers he thinks.

That makes sense, and, if that is the true root of it, makes it even more aggravating. Hello, Ram HVAC engineers???

There's a whole thread on it here. https://hdrams.com/forum/index.php?threads/a-c-issues-anyone-else.573/ Welcome to the club. Not everyone experiences this, but it is a big problem. This is my last RAM if they don't get it fixed. What is happening as I understand it is that the heater core is mixing too much warm air into the air flow. That makes sense because it is also too warm in the winter. If I set my temp to 62 degrees I perspire from the heat.

A sharp bump gave me a "service anti-lock brake" message in the EVIC and disabled my cruise control. Cleared up after I parked it for a few minutes and restarted. I've had lots of vehicles with anti-lock brake systems and never had it disabled by hitting a bump.

The "bump" was while pulling off from a stop sign making a right hand turn from a rural paved road onto a rural state road. It was one of those 90 degree turns with no curved apron and a big pothole in the corner. My right rear tire hit the pothole and immediately triggered the anti-lock brake message. When I got up to speed I tried to set the cruise and it was "unavailable".

Just seems awful sensitive for it to get all upset over one pothole.

Have you checked your fuses? They often are delivered not fully seated and a lot of odd problems can go away when they are properly seated.

Yep....did that the first day. I'm on my third Jeep Grand Cherokee and they all had the same problem with the fuses not being seated so that is the first thing I check on a new vehicle now.. All of the fuses in this truck were only partially seated too.....every one of them.

Sooner or later, this lack of quality control is going to bite ram in the butt....

Yeah, this is my last time I purchase a Ram at a dealership, I’m done with them, they don’t put enough pride in the product to ever get me coming back, and trust me, I’m telling all my friends.

I think they know if I were to tell all my friends, I would be shy a six pack by a few cans!
