Hi everyone. I have a 2022 2500 6.4 hemi with the alt trailer height. I am trying to dial in a blue ox sway pro 1000 pound WDH and sway control. I have made a few adjustments but man, the steering is still a bit squirrely and really fights me around corners, The trailer is 30ft Airstream with less than 90# tounge weight and GVWR of under 9000. This truck should be a dream to tow this RV but so far not so much. A person at Ram head quarters suggested taking it to dealer to deactivate the alt trailer height air suspension.?? That seems excessive so reaching out here to see if anyone can provide some guidance. TIA!!!!

Did you follow the instructions in the Owners Manual (pages 238-239) in setting up the hitch, including keeping the engine running when doing so? Sounds like the person a "Ram HQ" is not fully informed. You can turn off alt trailer height with the switch! You can also turn off the air suspension entirely when hooking up by putting the truck in tire jack mode. I used this setting when connecting my trailer to my prior 1500, which had 4-corner air. If I did not, it would fight me when raising/lowering the hitch to install/uninstall the bars on the Equalizer hitch.

When I set mine up it took some time and a few measurements, first when you get everything ready to hook up, put it in alt trailer height without the trailer hooked up, then you have to measure the height of the front wheel well. After that hook the trailer up without the weight distribution and re-measure the front wheel well in the same spot. The weight distribution bars should be hooked up after that and the front wheel well measurement should be right in the middle of the first two measurements you took. My truck was 48” empty, 49.5” with the trailer, so I went to 48.75” WD. Worked perfect, I have a 2500 CCLB with air suspension.

Do you know your exact weights?

On the 2500 I would disable the air suspension to setup the WDH. Also make sure the truck bed is empty.

Put the truck in ALT ride height, and then tire jack mode. Now hook up the trailer and take your measurements as directed by Blue Ox. That should get you setup well. If that still doesn’t feel right then I would add a little more tension to the bars.

If you really only have 90lbs of tongue weight for a 9K pound trailer, that is likely your issue. You should have about 10-15% of the trailers weight on the tongue. Otherwise, it's going to be a squirrely ride.

I set my factory air 2500's non-sway WDH hitch up with the air suspension set at the height I intended to tow with, which in my case is normal height. I had no issues dialing it in and no problems towing it.

Thank you---that was a typo---should be 900#

i have a similar trailer setup, i have the trailer loaded so my tongue weight is close to 1100lbs. tows like a dream. i setup the weight distribution hitch per the trucks owners manual instructions as mentioned above by CharlieL. i have tried both alt ride height and standard ride height and find the standard ride height is better for my setup when towing. did 3,000 miles last summer with zero complaints from the passenger seat.
