Ray from Haiti!......that's right. Been here too long and will be coming back to the states to a very difficult truck market. Got lots of questions

Hello Ray. So is your question "how does a 6.4 hemi tow 10K"? If so, what kind of trailer?

Here, go to Utah and don't worry about it... https://www.lhmchryslerjeep.com/new...+City+UT-36e883890a0e0a997f6ce116464d4843.htm

Of course you need about 85K to get it, but it is totally set up to tow...in style and comfort and maybe even do some FINS in Moab... https://www.lhmchryslerjeep.com/new...City+UT-36e883890a0e0a997f6ce116464d4843.htmI unfortunately do not have 85K laying around... window sticker https://www.lhmchryslerjeep.com/api...=3C6UR5EJ5PG534615&accountId=larryhmillercllc

It is set up to tow would have around a 2800 payload (with all the stuff on it) and close to a 15K max tow. I have a 2022 Laramie with 3K payload and 15K max tow and 10K is my personal max weight I WANT to tow comfortably with around a 1K plus or minus hitch weight... A Ram 2500 with a Hemi is perfect for that weight and a hitch tow Travel Trailer even with a 3.73 rear end. OK, now all you diesel guys need to step in to argue with me...but the man is going to lose 1K in payload and max tow and HE ASKED about a Hemi... Works for me.

A 2500, like the one I linked has the 4.10 gearing and so might even have a higher max tow rating. It also has all the towing accoutrement and most other bells and whistles also... But, then again, I only paid 62,600 for my Laramie. Let's not talk about how much after market stuff I've put on it. Please...

How readily able and cost can I expect with a gear ratio change to 4.10?

I don't think a gear swap would be worth it, there's really not much performance difference in 3.73 to 4.10. The 8 speed transmission does such a good job of keeping the truck in the right rpm range that it's not like years past with a 4 speed auto and a gear ratio could make such a huge difference.

Which diesel guys are you arguing with? No one mentioned anything diesel

More oomph overall to compensate for some torque you might have if you had a diesel. Only place you'd really notice might be mountains imho. Hemi costs 10k less than a diesel, is still a relatively speaking beast, if you are worried about mpg gas buying any HD, then good luck.

Hello Ray, any chance you are the Ray Comfort who talks to people on the street about Jesus???? Lol

The ones who almost predictably show up to tell you you are a worthless POS, having anything but a diesel. I was attempting to pre-emptively fend them off.
If only towing 10k and not every day a gasser is plenty fine

2013 Crossroads Sunset Trail 32rl ft.......9800 full load, 998 hitch weight
That’s only 10.2% tongue weight, which tells me that the TT won’t tow that stable behind any truck. Shoot for 13-15% on a TT.

Gas will tow that just fine. Personally I’d opt for 4.10’s, unless it’s almost all highway/interstate towing.

Here's the skinny as it now stands.......I'm choosing the 6.4 platform for the engine history and it's torque. I've owned 7 f-150's, a few dodges, a chev, isuzu , mazda and nissan diesels. I'm carpenter and concrete guy, not a mechanic, but have the smoke scared out of me, just thinking and studying about HD American diesels! What a freaking money hole! For some odd reason, three months ago, I started looking at the gas side of life. I find in the process, that people are as bummed about the costly mess. Chevy's 5.6 and Ford's 7.3 are too new and out of my budget, for even 2020's. My budget is squarely on a 3500, reg cab, fwd, dually, lb and looking at a high of 35k, financing 20-25. Looking to outfit air suspension and 4.10 for a lot of mountainous terrain. I will be looking hard at my trailer suspension as well. Don't know squat, love listening to you guys as long as you don't include into your insane 60K+ truck spending. I've been bill free for 20 years. Change my mind!

No, he lives in California and is a Kiwi. I'm an American missionary in Haiti, but like the other RC, I am in love with my Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ!

What can I do about that?

Ray, no way I'd try to change your mind! A person working in a budget they are comfortable with, financing an amount that works for them, is thinking clearly and planning well. Yes, I paid mid 60's for mine but that was something that worked for me (or at least I hope it ends up working! ;)).

For your plan to work you need to find that vehicle. Well maintained 3500 long bed dually's with regular cab aren't all that plentiful, then the group of them with 6.4 and not diesel makes the pool smaller. I haven't looked so not sure what falls in that price range but if I had to guess you are looking at 2014-ish with over 60k miles to get down to 35k prices. Maybe I'm off on that, I'm sure others will have a better sense of pricing/miles/years that might fit that budget.
