I need to know about travel trailer weights

Most places do not allow ball to ball towing so that example is only good far a small portion of people. I tow tandem with my 5th wheel as its the only legal way here

Over half the states that allow doubles actually allow ball on ball (typically TT+1) but technically any GN setup with a double tow is ball on ball.

Technically Colorado doesn't allow ball on ball so although I'm already skirting the length limits here and in most states we travel, I'm not using a GN pinbox to avoid that particular pitfall. In fact, TECHNCIALLY, CO and many states specify the 2nd trailer is watercraft only. Overall, few states enforce any restrictions on RV's due to often vague statutes, or at least don't bother anyone unless they're real sketch.

Now right there is the most wrong opinion we've seen on this thread. Yes, W R O N G !!

I've been towing any and everything since I was a kid, all over this great nation and I've never, EVER had a problem with a trailer swaying, or any other equipment for that matter, when I was able to properly load it. On rare occasion, I've not been able to get enough tongue weight for whatever reason, usually size and position of equipment loaded on a trailer with little choice how to load it, and that's the ONLY time I've had a sway issue. I just take it slow and easy at that point and usually don't have far to go or I would have turned the earth upside down to get it loaded correctly. And I feel like a soy latte drinker calling it sway. Can I please refer to it as whipping? May be a redneck term but that's what I've always heard it called here in the heartland.

Are we having fun yet?
I can just imagine someone Pulling up to pick up a parkmodel with that monstocity of a hitch and take an hour to hook up lol

Here I am expecting some sort of earth shattering "I've done that", towing god-mode story. lol.

I feel good about myself when I go to the dump and whip my utility trailer into a slot on the first try nice and quick while getting a nod of approval from the guy tending the place. I don't think I'd try double tow though (also I believe illegal in WA)

I have backed out of fuel stops when my egress was blocked, etc. but with a short 2nd trailer, it's twitchy.

If I did that on the boat ramp, there would be mutiny and plank walking involved given the time it took.

Here we are limited to 75 ft i am 77 ft with my boat behind my trailer and 78 ft with my UTV on the flat deck i have not been bothered but i usually go old logging roads to go hunting with the UTV behind so no lawman can get me lol

Been there, done that. Company rule, ya know. But yeah, my hitch and brackets aren't that tough to mount up.

Ok, now for the rest of the story

Although I do pull campers and do flatbed hauling, I also tow a lot of equipment.

The particular piece of equipment in the picture was a "whipper." It was also too long, too wide an had one tire that wasn't up to the task. Unfortunately, that's all par for the course but that's also a whole nother story.

Maybe I should have rigged up my WDH on this thing. Oh wait, the tongue was actually picking up on the back of the truck. Not too sure how that would work?

Opinions based on decades of towing hundreds of different trailers vs some one saying you need a WDH because the hitch manufacture says you need one hmm thats a tough one but ill take my experience on this one….

And engineers is a weak argument an engineer is just someone willing to take liability for their idea when it fails i work with engineers lets just say i would not let them design stuff for me its way over complicated for no benefit beyond liability

And the fact that you used that as an example for your opinions make you a sound like a sick person and makes anything you say no longer have merit to me there is no reason to even think about something like that let alone comment about it

Wow I can't believe you thought that makes sense or is a valuable contribution in any way, but thanks. Solid E for Effort.

This is the only hitch that makes a bumper pull tow like a 5th wheel and it is also laughable at best

Incorrect. Watch the hensely video.

You're missing the argument. The argument was never whether you can or cannot tow safely without a WDH. The argument was weather the WDH tows better, or weather it's a "gimmic" and "belongs in the garbage". The point (which flew over you), a properly setup WDH is always safer and a better tow than a setup without one.

Because it takes weight off of your back axle? Yeah I know, I'm just missing the point. No problem. I've been missing the point for decades of safe towing miles, million plus now. But I'm just a dumb ol redneck. I can live with that.

You have a good one too. Really, take care.

I like my WDH (I use an Equalizer, FWIW). Over the course of a trip as water in my fresh tank moved to the grey and black tanks I can shift upwards of 400# from the very front of my TT right behind the tongue to the very back, far behind the axles. This can make a huge difference to tongue loading. WDH with sway control is a nice bit of insurance.

As is typical, it isn't a one size fits all. It isn't black/white, one man's treasure is another man's "garbage."

Sadly, a few of you can't seem to carry on an adult conversation without getting sh*tty with one another and throwing insults. FFS.
