I recently purchased a ‘22 RAM 5500 which I’m going to be turning into a truck camper hauler rig. The truck was available and had pretty much all the features we wanted, but is missing tire pressure monitoring.

Is there a way to add that at the dealer so it’s integrated into the instrument panel displays? If not (as I suspect it cannot be added), does anyone have any good recommendations for an aftermarket system that works well with dual rear wheels?

According to the buyers guide: https://www.stellantisfleet.com/con...22/22DOMFLT_FBG_22MY_RM_354555_ChassisCab.pdf

All 3500/4500/5500 trims above Tradesman have TPIS (Tire Pressure Information System) so you have sensors and info in the EVIC.

Using AlfaOBD, it can be changed to TPMS.

Thanks @Brutal_HO! That's better news than I expected.

So in theory, I could use AlfaOBD to enable TPMS and I would then get the TPMS screen in the instrument cluster?

Also, if I do nothing and have TPIS, will I get a dash warning light when my pressures are low? I thought I tried this by airing down a tire around 10psi and driving around the block and I saw no light which was why I was interested in doing something more.

If you do not have the TPIS screen in your EVIC then you don't have sensors in your tires. the TPIS is an option and i believe can be added @Jimmy07 can shear some light on this part or perhaps @Brutal_HO may know aswell

TPIS does not display a low tire it only shows you what the pressures are

TPMS shows a warning when a tire is low and shows the pressures on the EVIC screen.

I really don't care about an alert, I just want a way to verify that I don't have a low tire during long drives.

I currently don't have any tire information in my EVIC, so I'm guessing I don't have sensors installed. I'm assuming that I could purchase those aftermarket, but I'm not sure if pairing becomes an issue at that point.

It's interesting. I have the SLT trim and therefore, according to https://www.stellantisfleet.com/con...22/22DOMFLT_FBG_22MY_RM_354555_ChassisCab.pdf, I should have TIPS as a standard feature. I guess that doesn't mean they install tire sensors or enable it?

You are right you should have it id inquire about that. Do you have the window sticker

I do have the window sticker. I don't see anywhere on it about Tire Pressure monitoring (either additional / deleted). The sticker clearly says 2022 Model year RAM 5500 Chassis, SLT Crew Cab, so I think I'm going to contact the dealer and ask about why I don't seem to have it enabled or sensors installed.

I just went out to the truck and looked through all of the menus, including the customization options and I cannot see anything in the EVIC as an option or as tire info, nor can I see it in the 12" Uconnect unit.

I believe it’s considered the 7” version. It has a large screen in the middle with customizable gauges in all four corners as well as on either side.

I did contact the dealer today and they are looking into it. They seem confused as well based on the information available online. I have a feeling they’re going to say something like “your truck wasn’t optioned with that” but it’s worth a try.

I’m not too sure how hard to push on it. It wasn’t a custom order truck for me but instead one off the lot that they had available (custom order by someone though as the window sticker had someone else’s name on it).

I feel like they should be held accountable to the online specs though. It makes me wonder if they didn’t take the wheel sensors / wheels for someone else and just disable the feature in the BCM hoping I wouldn’t notice, but perhaps that’s just me being paranoid.

If you scroll up/down to the vehicle information screen (2), then scroll left/right through all screens, you don't see tire pressure?

Sadly, I do not have the tire pressure screen in that menu. I actually took a video of me scrolling through the menu and sent it to my dealer as they asked the same thing.

i was literally going to ask this same question! i have a 22 5500 laramie lvl 1 pkg, i was suprised to find that i didnt have a TPMS as well especially in a laramie, and nothing on my menu either. So i presume my tires dont have the sensors in them then from factory? Good to know that this is potentially a simple upgrade at the dealership as it is a pain not having it.

Okay, so a bit of an update.

I’ve been in contact with my dealer. They claim that they asked around to their service department and sales department and “everyone is stumped” and they‘ve never known chassis cabs to come with TPIS. They also claim that they are contacting their rep to see what they say.

Honestly, I’m not sure why this is difficult. There is clear documentation showing that the SLT model has TPIS. So either the webpages are incorrectly advertising the TPIS (because I’ve sent them multiple different ones showing the SLT coming with TPIS), or RAM didn’t install the sensors in my truck and hope that the end user wouldn’t notice.

Either way, am I being unreasonable to expect them to make this right by installing sensors in all 6 tires and enabling the monitor in the dash display? I don’t see why it’s been two weeks of back and forth and no offer to make this right.

I would think they would at least check a wheel to see if the sensor is installed. Could be that they are already there and the EVIC just needs to be enabled?

It is possible for me to just enable it in the EVIC using AlfaOBD and see what happens? Perhaps that’s the easier way forward rather than arguing with the dealer.

I’m half tempted to tell the dealer that I want it repaired under warranty since it’s a ”standard feature” that is not currently functioning.

My 2019 5500 didn't come with TPIS, and I don't see it listed anywhere on the window sticker either. I just assumed it wasn't standard on the Cab & Chassis trucks.

Someone else can confirm as I've found no definitive confirmation, but I believe dually's have TPMS disabled because you will be running different pressures in the front vs rear tires and the system is only programmed for a single low pressure alert. My 3500 has the TPIS active, but not TPMS.

you may or may not be surprised that the documentation really doesn't mean anything.

we had a 22 Tahoe and the coolant light came on @ 5k miles...i went to check the temperature and never found an actual gauge with a reading....just the sliding scale gauge.

owners manual said it should be there and even had it's own little section about it. talked to the dealership, i knew more about it than they did. they put me in touch with a regional rep...he knew a little more than the dealership but after finally getting him to understand what was missing on the cluster pages...not only did he not have an answer, I never rec'd one. Wasnt worth the effort to keep pushing it even after opening a case with GM and following up several times with them.

Dealership has to be on your side for them to fight for you
