PW rock slider "steps"... kinda worthless

I just got my 2022 PW and the "steps" on the OEM rock rails are quite useless. I almost busted my a** getting in the truck after it rained. I like the rock rails and prefer a factory look. The step portion is obviously a separate piece from the actual rock rail. Does anyone know if there is a wider step piece available? I looked at the $1,600 aftermarket electronic automatic retracting steps, but I'm pretty sure the rock rails would have to be removed to install these and I would rather not do that. I don't need (or want) anything lower as I plan to actually use my truck off road, but wide enough to actually get my foot on would be nice. Has anyone found a good solution to this? I can't be the only one to find these things annoying...
 
I tried for some time, but there is no way to have them both. It's all due to the pinchweld and the fact they both use the same mounting holes on the body.
However, the AMP steps do tuck in under the pinch weld, so there is nothing hanging down.

Thanks for that. Nice detail on that install! I'll have to see if I can get used to the tiny "step". It doesn't look bad at all on your truck, but mine is white and think it would look like something was obviously missing.

You could always find a shop to enlarge the step pads slightly. They'd probably need to weld on to them and re-coat.
 
And it's even worse with the small step and running 35's.
Even with a bigger step, anything over stock size tire will be an issues getting in.

Your truck should be all black under the slider/step. Your black lower 2 tone should be paint, not a sticker.
 
That's interesting, I thought it was a decal package...
 
I also had the off road pkg rails on my 22 PW. Loved the look, but was just too difficult getting in and out especially after installing the 35s. Wife could barely even get up in it. Like Crusty I went with the Amps and love them. So much easier!
 
..any rails/sliders that use only those holes in the body are rock sliders in name only, afaic. The Ellis rails bolt to the pinch weld but using many bolts. Wouldn’t have those, either. There are real rails out there.
The Amps wouldn’t have lasted much longer on my truck…they gone.
 
Dang i’m a 64 yoa drunk and 5’9” and my wife is 5’2” and they work great as steps. I have 35’s i asked my wife if she wanted different steps and she said no. I live in montana and we get plenty of snow. Maybe we are doing something wrong.

It's not the height, it the width.
I think I found a solution. The Randy Ellis Designs sliders will fit with the AMP steps (verified with the manufacturer), I'll probably go with that.
 
Just pull the Ram steps off and sell them. Plenty of people want them and they're only held on by a few bolts. Then buy a set of Randy Ellis or White Knuckle sliders. Either of those will give you more purchase on the step and WAYYY more body protection. I think running the Ram sliders AND the Randy Ellis sliders is going to look weirder than not having them at all. Just my 2¢

I either misspoke or you misunderstood. I am looking into removing the Ram sliders and installing the Randy Ellis sliders along with the AMP power steps.
What's stopping me right now is that they want $616.40 just for the shipping on the Randy Ellis sliders.
I'm waiting for a response now to see if they can ship the sliders and the light bar for the same cost. That will atleast make it sting a little less.

Do the Randy Ellis sliders go under the AMP steps?
 
They are over gouging on the shipping. I shipped my RAM slider/step half way across the country on UPS for $100.

And I'd double check on the AMP step and randy Ellis slider combability. Not yea, we think it will work. But yes we have installed that combo on a RAM truck and it works.

After trying for months to figure out how I could make the AMP steps and OEM sliders work, I could not come up with a solution. And I don't give up easy.

Only way I see it working is if the Aftermarket sliders are dropped down enough for the AMP step to work between the slider and the body, AND the slider would have to be bolted directly to the frame. But then you will lose ground clearance as the slider will be about 4 inches or more BELOW the body pinch weld.
 
I liked the simple look of the RE Sliders, until I spoke to them and found out I would have to drill so many holes in the cab of the truck. Living in Florida, that is a hard pass. Looking back, I am glad I went with the White Knuckle sliders since my truck is used primarily for wheeling.

White knuckles are sweet. Super heavy duty.
