TPMS (TIS) sensors for trailer (SOLVED - see 1st post) aka TTPMS - Trailer TPMS

Forgive me if someone else already posted this, but I noticed the Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System is now available in the 2020 configurator.

I see it there. Maybe a spy here told the execs that we had gone around their game.

I still don't see the Aux camera as an option yet.

Got all the parts in the truck, got the “...not configured...” message. That means I just need to be plugged into the trailer with the sensors installed, go through the setup, and ready to go, right?

One small amendment to the excellent write up from Phil - if you have a megacab, you have to undo the upper seat belt bolt (t27 head) to drop the upper trim panel.

I used these fasteners from Lowe’s, fairly tight, no fear of them coming loose.

I see the TTPMS but there's no Aux cam option on the US site.
You're right, I was looking at the 2019 builds and the trailer cam is still an option for that model year. 2020, nada and the TTPMS is now an option. Maybe one can still order the trailer cam wiring through the dealership. I know the TTPMS wasn't showing up in Feb when building 2020 models but you could add it to your order from the dealership.

I just ordered a set of 4 supposedly OEM RAM tpms off ebay for $40. The last set i ordered for my 1500 worked great and I transferred them over to my 2500 and they still work great. Unfortunately the seller i bought those from no longer had them, so I purchased a set from a seller right here in NJ. However the paypal alert i got for sending payment doesn't exactly inspire confidence...

I think you are going to get some Asian food in little boxes.

Well, I just got notification that the TIM is on backorder until September...

I guess I'll be jumpering it for now and hoping that I don't get rear ended potentially shorting the CAN.

Just got an e-mail from another Mopar dealer. This is for the TIM and Cable.

Maybe @Jimmy07 or @Phil T can make jumpers with the actual connector for sale for those who have to wait for the TIM.

I suspect the TIM does more than jumper the CAN busses. Here is a picture of the TIM circuit board. It contains a microprocessor. It may even be the device that stores the trailer and tire settings.

It’s not a jumper, it’s providing galvanic isolation. Any shorts or surges on one side won’t affect the other.

According to previous docs isolation/protection is the only purpose it serves. On that same track it may be acting similar to the security gateway separating the two CAN networks.

This right here^. It’s just protecting for shorts, etc. Other than that, the TPM at the bumper is the master, and the TIM is just gating the messages.

The TIM provides electrical isolation, and it is responsible for gating messages between the two CAN busses. Devices on either side of the TIM might not behave properly if they see messages from the other side. For example, the TPM may have a very limited CPU or RAM that can't process all CAN bus messages fast enough, so the TIM shields the TPM from unrelated messages. The TIM may also consolidate and/or translate one message type to another (dissimilar protocol formats).

Similarly, the main security gateway may freak out if it sees messages from the TPM; it might consider those messages hostile.

These systems were tested with the TIM installed. It may be a safety risky to bridge the two CAN busses without the TIM in the middle.

I am a little surprised the production line didn’t consume 100% of these parts, given they were late-to-need for the 2019 run.

Wish we would have figured this all out 30 days earlier we would have gotten into the parts.
