The glove box door fails to latch when you close it. Dealer says that the whole glove box assembly has to be replaced at a cost of over $500. Any suggestions on how to repair, or videos on how to remove this item, to inspect the mechanism?

What trim level do you have?...is it the upper or lower.

I have a 2019 RAM 2500 Big Horn Crew Cab. It is the upper glove box that. It opens up into the dash with the button on the left side next to the door.
The latch will work if I slam it hard.
Thanks

The locking mechanism is located on the left of the actual box. When closing the door push down toward the left side of the door . You don't have to manhandle it just gently but firmly.

This the actual locking mechanism. The door is in the raised position The green marker is pointing to a paddle attached to the door.

Now the door is in the closed position. As the door is closed the paddle rotates upward until it engages the slot ( orange marker both photos) in the locking arm that keeps the door closed. The entire glove box is entirely plastic with exception of a few screws and springs so there is a bit of flex in the door. If you try to push the door down on the right side it is possible to bottom out the door on that side while the left side doesn't descend far enough to engage the locking arm.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the photos and explanation! Did you just have one of these sitting around? How difficult is it to get the part out?

The above link shows how to replace the cubby on a Tradesman with an upper glove box. Some of things in it don't pertain to you because you already have the glovebox but it is pretty simple.

The disassembly and reassembly is the same. The glovebox that I used for the photos is something that I picked up from ebay cheap.
