Dif oil change

I just used the AMSoil... no additve.

Front is 4.2 pints
Rear is 8.5 pints
Friend with a 2018 dually used Amsoil in the rear diff. It started chattering and he ended up putting the additive in. Cured the problem. I will just use the Amsoil 75W140 in mine. If it chatters I will add a bottle of the Slip Lock.

You’re not supposed to use additive in the 03-18 AAM axles. They don’t have clutch style LSD’s.

Tell me more about this MH cover for an AAM 11.5 diff!!
How much fluid do we use? I might look unto replacing mine.
Thanks

About double the capacity to ~8quarts and is finned for cooling.

I ran one on the 05 but don’t think I gained anything from it. It did cost a pretty penny, cost double at the fluid change, and cost fuel economy when it was cold out because 8 quarts of diff fluid in a finned cover takes a LONG a time to warm up. I’d start to see mileage get better and where it should be after 30 miles of driving. Wasn’t worth it to me and I won’t be doing another for how I use the truck.

Like I said, it cured the problem. Even thought Amsoil already has some in it. He said it was pretty severe before he put the addtive in.

I would guess it masked another issue. There aren’t clutches in his diff to chatter…

I'm a little intrigued with the aftermarket covers some have been talking about. I just don't like the finned style, they are a little too flashy for me......is there a nice plain "steel" pan that is available that people like or use?
I'm kinda with AH.....not sure if it's needed, but pulling a 5'r across country, sure won't hurt.
Thanks
Ray

PML is the least flashy.

No it can’t hurt, but unlike years past Ram doesn’t even use a finned cover on the Max Tow anymore. Just bling, put the money in your fuel tank and get out more.

FWIW Banks did a video on these larger capacity covers vs the one he's developed and selling...
This is the entire playlist... grab a beer and some pizza...

I doubt the slight difference in temperature due to the Banks cover will make any significant difference in the reliability of the differential. However I installed mine as I tow heavy and I like to change the lube every 15 thousand miles (every two years). It makes fluid changes really easy.

Not sure where you are seeing 'slightly' better... 61 degrees cooler while running under load for an hour seem to be a bit more than slightly better... ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯.

Like most Banks items the video's have a lot of words without much real to substantiate in the end (these videos did start strong, but ended very weak), and their products are grossly overpriced for the level of performance you get but someone has to pay for all their expensive advertising.

His videos were really good and some are interesting because of his knowledge. I think for the cummins he's limited on what he can do. I know that he specializes in Duramax and all the gadgets work! My old man's truck smokes my Ram, he calls the Lamb. In all aspects. Towing, speed, acceleration, engine and Trans Temps, its amazing. I can spin the wheels at any gear on his truck.

Not defending everything Gale does, but he knows his stuff. He's the largest Duramax dealer in the world, larger than GM. He has the whole Military contract and for special vehicles that haven't been disclosed to the public much. You don't get those contracts if you can't back up your claims.

My wife thinks I only have 3 guns

He definitely knows his stuff and has made some great products over the years. You just don’t get a lot of bang for your buck with them anymore. Lots of advertising and hype expenses.

30 years ago it was cool to see Banks stuff, now there are better/cheaper options.

I agree there. Especially for Ram. But using my dad's Chevy, holy cow the performance is crazy, expensive but I love the improvements. I think the Cummins just holds us back without having to do a whole overhaul to get the real performance that you can get with bolt on products for GM

V-8 vs I-6. They each have their place.

Most of the stuff he sells is useless to me, I don't have a 6.7 (nor do I need or care for one)...

Overpriced? You mean like anything else out there in a niche market or with a name attached to it? lol
I have no real vested interest in any of his stuff, simply pointing out they are making certain claims which are clearly posted on their website and would be easily proven false with a nice lawsuit to follow (welcome to capitalist 'murica')

Disregarding his later videos which slide towards product promotion, his earlier video shows compelling information against flat backed/more oil diff covers pretty much sold everywhere.
Which/what product is cheaper/better.. in this case diff covers? All I'm running across falls into the 'moar oil, moar betta' category.

More like everything else out there would be $$$$ and Banks is $$$$$-$$$$$$, and often doesn’t perform as well as the $$$$ items.

Would love to see the data you keep locked away to substantiate your claims.....
