What size quick links did you use?
I got some D-ring shackles and they're too damn thick and interfere with the hitch pin lock some.
Sh*t happens so fast. That is a good reason right there to get a full 2.5" hitch. This is on my list they are just so $$$. I am tired of using the reducer sleeve. I took my hitch out the other day and forgot to remove the reducer sleeve. I happed to look in the mirror and something black bouncing behind me. The big chunk of metal reducer had fallen out. Luckily no one was behind me.
Exactly- I’ve heard horror stories of the reducer sleeve shifting and eventually wearing the pin where it come out! I will never use a reducer sleeve as 90% of the time I’m hauling 2-3 horses and I won’t risk it. I strongly advice a full 2.5 hitch regardless what you tow. Never can be to safe when hauling 1.000’s of pounds down a roadThis is on my list they are just so $$$. I am tired of using the reducer sleeve. I took my hitch out the other day and forgot to remove the reducer sleeve. I happed to look in the mirror and something black bouncing behind me. The big chunk of metal reducer had fallen out. 4 1/2” x 2”

Even if the lock came off this one- it is wrench tightened and torqued in there and isn’t going anywhere.I got a set of these because even after running a regular barrel hitch pin lock all these years, I don't trust the new crop of gear.
The pin is an added layer of security just in case that lock head ever comes apart. However, I don't care for the barrel key.

PITA if you have to pull the drop hitch but I also use one of these to keep everything tight and rattle free.
