My pw is a 19 and I'm thinking of replacing before it fails out in the middle of nowhere.

AGM like an ODYSSEY?

Personally don't go by brand. I go with the nicest one I can always get in stock at one of the big chains, I have never had pushback on any warranty and the fact that there is usually one in almost any town makes exchanging them very fast. Most also give a mil discount too which is nice.

If it was no fail reliability I was after I would do a dual battery setup.

Yes..AGM, I’m not sold on lithium under a hot hood.
I’m partial to Yellowtops, though some question the quality compared to the past

I use a trickle charger on all my vehicles. My 2012 Cummins had 9 years on the batteries when I sold it in 2021

If you have a batteries plus near by they have an excellent battery the X2 power. it is not cheap but a great battery and great warranty. it is not prorated like many batteries so if it craps out 1 day before warranty expires you get a new battery period.

Battery maintainers are critical if your vehicle sits! My BMW's that set all winter have 11 and 13 year old OEM batteries still going strong.

I just think it's silly to replace a perfectly good battery on the chance it might fail.

my original battery in my 2020 PW lasted about 8 months so probably not a bad idea. I have seen many reports of newer ram trucks having their batteries crap out early.

Covered under warranty?

From Consumer Reports...
"Most aftermarket car batteries sold in the U.S. are made by three companies that build them for retailers: Johnson Controls, which supplies more than half of the market; Stryten; and East Penn. They are sold under various names and built to the specifications of retailers, so performance can vary. Most stores will test, install, and match a battery to your car’s needs. Here are the major brands and where they are sold." https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/car-batteries/buying-guide/

Personally, the last battery I bought for my 1500 was the O'Reilly Super Start Platinum AGM made by Johnson Controls. After going back and forth between that and the X2 Power, I went with the Super Start for the reason that arx237 pointed out...I could get it replaced at an easy to find chain of stores. When the OEM battery died, it gave no warning. I drove to work and when I went to leave, the truck wouldn't start. Far better to have it die in town than when I was on a hunting trip.

Wow, sorry to hear that. My limited experience is a slow crank, clicking, or a poor charging indicator from the voltmeter. To have a battery go from good to dead instantaneously and without warning is a pain.

Did you find out why it stopped working all of a sudden? I assume the internal battery plate to post connection on the battery failed? To go from 12V to 0V is the only explanation I can think of.

With the limited testing equipment I had at the time I didn't dig into the problem much more than to ensure I didn't have a mechanical problem that would take another battery out. I agree that normal symptoms would be slow cranking, clicking, etc. But, in this case, it just stopped working. We jumped it off and I was able to get it to the house. The OEM battery was about 6 years old at the time. One significant difference was the weight from OEM to the Super Start. The OEM was surprisingly light compared to the Super Start.

yes your battery is covered under your 3/36 warranty altho it might be 24 months I don't remember but they replaced both my battery and alternator under warranty.

no there is no warning . Mine gave me one slow start and then it was dead. would not even want to jump start. it sounds like a common issue on newer rams.

Mine started slow cranking when the weather started turning colder. Just put a Optima Yellowtop in it and its great now. I'd think anything with a winch should probably have a deep cycle battery in it anyway.

Bought the PW with 13k on it and already there was a Costco batt in it, was going to replace it with an Optima immediately but saw that it was six months old…have spent a small fortune on this thing since so will let it ride a bit.

Keep your batteries and invest in one of these:

Limited-time deal: GOOLOO 4000A Peak Car Jump Starter - 12V Auto Battery Booster SuperSafe Lithium Jump Box for All Gas, Up to 10.0L Diesel Engine, Portable Power Pack with USB Quick Charge and Type C Port, Orange https://a.co/d/4SAY8ul

I love mine, carry it in my truck everywhere, and I've jump started the freightliner m2 106 at our shop with it a few times. Turns out that truck was missing a nut on a critical engine ground from new, hence constantly needing a jump, and this thing was always up to the task.

Anyway get one just in case, and once you have to use it, then you know it's time for batteries.

My truck just turned 3, still on the original battery. iirc the DOM on my OEM battery was like 2017 or something…I imagine this one only has another year or so left. When it starts to go I’ll replace it with a 27F AGM.

I believe the stock battery size is H7/94R…I think a 27F which has fair bit more capacity and CCA and basically the same dims (just a bit taller)
