So in just about every post where people are talking about mods/programs - anything that goes through/bypasses the SGM - everyone says X/Y/Z needs to be removed before taking the vehicle to the dealer for service. Is this because the dealer can't access the PCM/ECM with their FCA tool? Or because they could possibly override your programs? Or what?

I understand some states are more strict about such things than others and that even some municipalities within less strict states are more strict than the state itself (looking at you Harris County, TX) but if you happen to be in a state that generally doesn't give AF what you do to your vehicle, what is the point of removing mods/programs before seeing the dealer?

And secondly, what if the vehicle won't run without the programmer due to the vehicle losing roughly 200# on an emissions diet? ;) <-asking that one for a friend that's waiting for the CP4/3 fix.

I've heard that the dealer scan tool has connection problems if the bypass is installed.
Since the cp4 replacement is a recall they can not refuse to swap the pumps and anything else needed to complete the repair.

Are you talking in warranty service or out of warranty?

Frankly most mechanics don't care what you do your car. Some don't like the shoddy mods some people do or if the mods make it harder to work on. At the end of the day they want to make $$ working on your vehicle.

When it comes to warranty, is the modification the source of the problem? If yes, then not covered by the manufacturer.

There are some repair shops that will flat out disclose they won't work on a modified car, but I would think you would establish that before taking it in. I don't see why they would care to be honest. And if you are into heavy duty modifications, then chances are you can do your own work/repairs. Or take it to the person that modified it for break/fix.

These are big toys....to love them is to change them. There are plenty of mechanics out there waiting for the opportunity to charge you an hourly rate!

I just did the CP4 recall and didn't take out the bypass or Banks Pedal Monster. I don't think they'd care to look up what my truck should be equipped with, but I've added OEM parts/features like passive entry, 12.1 screen, aux switches etc.

The truck in question is out of warranty. I did the work myself (I own an auto repair shop) and am not scared to get my hands dirty. My problem with the CP4 recall is I don't have the capability to do the post swap programming. The dealer is going to have to do that. But said truck will not run w/o the programmer due to the lack of "required" equipment. Since it's a federal law to have these items, wasn't sure if the dealer was supposed to report to EPA or something if they come across a ➖️ truck.

If its deleted no need for the dealer flash as your tune would overwrite the changes anyway your tuner may have CP3 files you can get but most people have been fine running tuners CP4 tunes with the CP3.3
