I think this new package will probably raid Power wagon sales by at least half. Not as capable off road as a PW but has much higher GVW and trailering specs plus the Cummins motor. It has a general look of the Power Wagon now. What do you think?

Higher GVWR, but the payload is only a couple hundred pounds higher because the Cummins is a fat pig of an engine.

I haven't read the article. does it have all the electric goodies and winch, just with more payload?

..off to read.. lol

I believe the gas version has more payload and towing than the PW by a fair amount.
Oh yeah, more than twice. It’s over 3k. The thread title just mentions the diesel.

I bet they sell a ton of these with the diesel though. You can get 75% of a Powerwagon and a diesel and not have a crappy payload. Interesting thing though, the Hemi is listed as towing almost 17k pounds but the diesel is limited to 14k.

I'm thinking maybe the Hemi towing capacity mentioned in the article is for gooseneck, and the 14k for the Cummins is bumper pull? Either way, I really like this package. My truck needs to work hard all week and play on the weekend and the higher payload is a great thing.

The only thing it has in common with a PW is the rear locker and the 4600 shocks (which are nothing to brag about).

.
And the winch (on Hemis), grille, bumpers, rock rails, two tone paint job, 33” Duratracs (though on a 20” wheel), and RAM letters on the tailgate.

Some people may care mostly about the mechanical/off-road features, but the vast majority of buyers are going to see that it looks the same but they can actually tow and haul with it.

If you go down to “offroad” features the PW has front locker, rear locker, swaybar, winch, articu-link, rock rails, skids, and Duratracs. The only thing there that the Rebel doesn’t have is the front locker, swaybar, and articu-link. So 3 out of 8 features. Granted that the swaybar and articu-link are big parts of what make it such a beast offroad, but for the majority of people that take them offroad those won’t come into play. This is going to be great for someone that does overlanding and also tows a decent sized trailer sometimes.

?

It has the rear locker, not the front.

Though not confirmed, the pics also show the Articulink.

If you look at the other thread on the new rebel I think I debunked the articulink as a web designer using a stock image to show the shocks. Screen shots from the videos of the real truck show a regular radius arm. I am sure if it had it they would have mentioned it as a selling point.

I wonder how much I could find a takeoff Power Wagon sway bar for? Great use for an aux switch.

Saying that the Rebel is 75% of the Power wagon is quite a stretch in my eyes. While there is definitely a group of buyers that buy it for the looks alone, I'd say that is probably 20% of the buying group at most. Outside the looks, the only things that are shared are, skid plates, winch on hemi, rear locker, and I suppose if you wanna stretch it, the tires and shocks.

Now, since the focus of this is really for the Cummins convo, you're not getting:
  • the winch
  • the articulink arms
  • the taller and softer springs
  • the front locker
So you're paying a premium for the Rebel package for what exactly? Shocks that are going to perform far worse than any of the aftermarket options? 20" wheels that aren't beadlock capable? Tires that are only 33" when basically everyone who wheels or overlands is running 37s.

I'd imagine this package will sell to the guys that are currently driving the 1500 Rebel and know the name and love their trucks, or the mid life crisis guys in low numbers.

I think, the Hemi option anyway, is going to be one helluva work truck option for those (like myself) that don't need the pulling grunt of a diesel nor the supreme offroad capability of a true PW. You get a winch, rear locker, some protection underneath, offroad tires AND most importantly a greatly increased payload. I think it bridges the gap perfectly between a regular 2500 and the PW. It'll sell.

Honestly if I was in the market for a new truck I'd be tempted. (don't tell my truck I said that or it'll break getting revenge..... like a scornful woman.....)

My guess is that they didn't design the rebel to target those that wanted a super capable off road beast but rather they just designed this for those that want a Cummins and semi capable off road truck in one package. Truck manufacturers seem to be moving towards more and more trim levels to provide something specific for everyone. I think Ford has about 100 versions of the 2023 Super duty. I wouldnt be surprised if this sells better then the power wagon since its now marketed (not necessarily in practice) as a diesel option on a power wagon.

I think the biggest difference between Ram and Ford here is that the Rebel is a new trim, where as the Tremor is a package option. I think there may be a group of OEM guys that value the combo for sure, and @jetrinka you bring up a good point about that, but overall it's nowhere near a power wagon. I just don't understand why these aren't line item options. I mean you could surely package this together instead of the off road option that currently exists right? Like, the current off-road package already has the shocks, and at least one skid plate, you're basically adding a second skid, rear locker and tires? You can keep the winch as a separate line item for the hemi only trucks and boom done.

I think they also really messed up with 33s on 20s. The tremor seems to hit a great sweet spot in that you're not giving up any payload, but you're gaining all the off-road goodies (rear locker, front limited slip, shocks, 35x18s, skid plates, and even a level). I assume the Rebel is Rams answer to the Ford Tremor, and honestly I find it seriously weak. I think they spent too much time focusing on the branding and not enough on any serious value for the thing.

I hear you. Honestly my dream truck would be a Hemi Tradesman with the PW package but with the standard suspension. I want the tools like the lockers and winch but don't really need the soft suspension.
