On the 2020 Ram 3500 HO Cummins,

Is there a way to have the vehicle remember Last Known State of whether you have your Jake Brakes and/or Tow Haul mode On or Off? Every time I start the truck I have to re-set them to where I used them last.

With the stock truck, no. I have read it is possible with a custom ECU from a welding guy in Canada (or possibly other custom ECU).

I agree, it is really annoying.

Oh yeah, it *will* remember if you turned off the parking sensors. I wish it wouldn't do that (or at least make it an option) because I would prefer to have to turn off the parking sensors every time.

I seem to recall a post that someone was able to wire something up to use one of the aux switches to force the brake on with ignition, but I'd have to go looking.

It would be nice if it was just a setting one could toggle with AlphaOBD.

the eb will stay on when a trailer is connected.

The EB doesn't stay on in my 2019 HO when the trailer is connected. My wife goes through a pre-drive checklist that includes turning on the EB every time, even when the trailer is connected.

I read somewhere the reason they turn off the EB between starts is because the EB can be dangerous in icy conditions, so they want the driver to intentionally enable the EB every time the vehicle is started.

that's very odd that it doesn't.

I uploaded a video demonstrating how my 2019 HO doesn't remember the exhaust brake setting with the trailer connected. I apologize for sniffling, but my allergies are in full swing.

EDIT: I added "with the trailer connected" to clarify that the trailer was connected.

I wonder if there is some way to change these settings in the computer with all these gadgets everyone is using? However this is above my pay grade.

I haven't run across a soft hack yet, I just remember someone posting they used one of the Aux switches to do it.

I'm also tracking an older thread about using an Aux switch to trip the backup camera on fooling it into "reverse" but it was for older model 1500 trucks and did require some wiring changes to basically cut the reverse lead and then use an aux switch to control NC/NO states.

Mine will remember to leave the exhaust break on sometimes with or without the trailer, but there's no rhyme nor reason to it. Seems stupid that if you start the truck with a trailer connected that the tow-haul button just doesn't automatically come on.

Because assuming things will occur leads to complacency. I have no issues with a Tow/Haul/EB reset when restarting the truck - trailer or no. I have control.

But why? Do you want to control the machine or would you rather the machine assume it knows what you want. I prefer the former - the other option is, frankly, terrifying.

I hate the machine to control me and make me work harder after I tell it what to do. I want it to do what I ask the the first time. I have a wife that I have to keep reminding things... LOL

I think you need to edit that, you just said that you do not want to control the machine, and that if you did control the machine.... it is terrifying.

"I prefer the latter", meaning of the 2 ways you provided, you prefer that the truck control you. (First being you control it, second being it assumes to know all). I do not think that you meant what you typed?

Now as for me, I would prefer that the truck see that the 7 pin connector is attached to a trailer and react with a general pre-set change in software to support trailer towing. I would also desire that as long as the truck sees that the 7 pin is in use, it should maintain any trailer/towing related settings until I disable them or until it observes that the 7 pin connector is no longer in play.

I am one that gets annoyed that every time I shut the ignition off, I have to pull away and remember to enable the towing mode.

Now... what I want way the heck more than trailer tire pressure gizmos is.... Trailer Anti-Lock brakes that integrate into the trucks brains! I want to be capable of turning the trailer brakes up to the level of skidding and then use wheel speed sensors and brake modulation to prevent smoking flat spots into the tires in the event of hard/emergency braking.

That would be amazing, safe and game changing. All you scientists and electrical goobers.... go to work!

I checked two trucks last night with trailers and both remembered the eb on when the pigtail was plugged in.

weird.

eh, maybe not lol sounds like a few folks on here are seeing some of the same thing. I'll ask around some other folks this wknd and see what they say. I'm curious now!
