Brand new Warn Zeon 12s Leaking oil from drum

I'm glad to hear that you have a bunch of caked on fluid on the under side of your truck. What that has to do with the tea in China I don't know. That you have a truck that you don't take care of?
You have a leak and are one of those slobs that just leaves things because it runs?
You don't wash the under side of your truck?
Or just in general you don't take care of your equipment?
I am in northern onterible and plow with my truck so rust is a huge issue… i guess you dont live where they salt and put calcium on the roads where you need that stuff caked on unless you want to do a body job every 3 years due to rust…. I take very good care of my truck…. Why would i wash it off and allow rust to form…

I dont care how many friends you have i would be amazed if they replace it…
Your “friend” at the dealer will spray it and wipe it off of he is doing his job properly they he can see if its still leaking or not…. A multimeter will not tell you anything other than testing resistance of the motor. An AMP clamp will tell you everything you need to know about the condition of the motor max out the winch load and see how much amp draw there is if its too high then the motor has corrosion and needs to be rebuilt…. I have plenty of experience wheeling and winching in the rocks including recovering flipped jeeps in the rocks i understand the importance of a winch. Your tiny drip of “oil” is not an issue and if its not broken down grease then the “oil” is coming fron a different source as the winch holds no oil.

If that tiny dried up drip is “highly disturbing” you better not change the oil as you will have many “highly disturbing” drips afterwords…

When i go out i have all kinds of recovery gear there have been times my winch failed and had to use a highlift jack and comealongs to get the job done it happens but thats why you never go out alone

Did you guys clean the oil off and see if it came back? Seems like that’s all you need to do since the winch doesn’t have any oil in it.

The winch is about as likely to leak oil as the power wagon is to leak diesel fuel.

If you knew this then why insinuate that he doesn't take care of his truck? Seems strange.
The same reason he is adamant the oilless winch is leaking oil on the drum side and that for some reason means you have to test the motor on the opposite side to see if the winch is bad….. but im sure his”redseal” mechanic friends can back him up….. the way he is throwing around Redseal like it means anything tells me he is out in Alberta (they all seem to do it out there like it means something which it does not) and they don't use salt out there

OP please tell us what the dealer says or include a little video of that aswell im curious what they will say

this thread will be cleaned up soon and will be forgotten.

My favorite part was the 4WP name drop. As if they’re a reputable 4-wheel-drive shop.

That’s like saying the guy behind the counter at auto zone told you whats wrong with your engine after you described a noise. 4WP is, at best, a parts counter.

IDK about you fookin Canadians

That fact that the OP dictates his messages because he is a DR. and then doesn't check the grammar/ spelling/punctuation tells me all I need to know....but the 4WP name drop was the clincher

"and they don't use salt out there"
"The City of Calgary only uses sodium chloride and calcium chloride. Roads salts used for snow and ice control may be solid or liquid brines."
You're kidding right? In Edmonton and Calgary they used A type of liquid salt as mentioned above, Mixed with gravel. As it can get easily 40 below here and in the northern part of the province in Winter. Most regular roadsalt stops working at 20 below so that is why they started using the liquid salt salt and Gravel mix.
which is even worse than regular salt for your car, like the type they used when I lived in Ontario for 20 years.
Mr. Know it all who said "they don't use salt and Alberta" maybe thinking of saskatchewan and Manitoba. Where once it gets past 20 below 0 salt does not work so they only use gravel at that point.
And yes red seal mechanic is do something I did pick up since I moved to Alberta it's the same as a journeyman obviously. Somebody certified the same way as a journeyman.
I wasn't named dropping a shop. I have many close friends that work at multiple locations And yes they are all journeymen, including the manager. These are guys I camp with, wheel with and I should have known better than to even mention their name. in past posts, I have just said, local 4 whee drive shop.
I did not start this thread again. I could really not care less since I started carrying my Backup winch, Yet another member with a brand new power wagon, Said he had the same problem and asked ME the question so I answered it.
There is a reason I haven't been on here all summer, it's because I've been out camping and wheeling and I don't sit on my phone or computer on Internet forms daily. Yet will look in at Certain ones from time to time.
I learned many decades ago not to fight and argue with people on computers it's a no win situation, No matter how right you are.
My truck is finally going to the dealer for another issue, a brake booster issue as I mentioned before, it Is a screw up on the recall fix. Since it's going Anyway and I know the Tech I've asked him to look at it. if I was all that worried I wouldn't Have wheeled all summer, With it leaking, here and there a little bit of fluid.
Yes I mentioned before and I'll say it again I've had the 10s apart, I know these winches, and they shouldn't be doing this.

Every time i have been out to berta in the winter i have never once seen a plow truck spraying calsium or sodium cloride out side of those 2 citys here they do all the time there is a reason we usually go out to alberta to buy used trucks its because they are all basically rust free unless they are from the city….

In all your time out camping has the winch leaked any more “oil”

I don’t know what this post says because it is too long and poorly constructed for my ADD. But, I hope you figure out your problem. I also hope you figure out your winch problem.

And believe me I've been right there right there when the red seal mechanic at 4 Wheel Parts parts,
Also

Im confused. Is it a 4 Wheel Parts Store, or just a 4 wheel drive shop? My brain is exploding.

just looked at mine, 2019…it has dust adhering to “wet” in plenty of places.
I have never had a winch that didn’t seep oil that had separated from the grease within, some worse than others.
Snug down the torx screws on both ends and call it good

Road salt management plan - The City of Calgary

I guess you don't come out this way that often.
Ontario Uses a lot of salt and if you live in the North? Dryden, Hearst, Sudbury or North Bay et cetera. Then yes every time one little snowflake hits the ground Around the lakes or on highway 11, the plows are out droping salt Like crazy. I know it well.
That should answer your 1st question.
2nd nobody comes to Alberta to buy used trucks because they're rust free lol! everybody knows you go to BC to buy used trucks that are Is rust free!
My last XJ from BC didn't have a block heater and that's not uncommon as I lived on the island and in the lower mainland. And where there's no snow and no ice there's no salt!
From my M101 military trailer to my wife's used TJ, Anything we buy used like that we get it from BC as it's well known, well known in the West anyway that vehicles from BC are Mostly, if not rust free.
As one of the people said and After my 1st post In may. I have a suspicion now, it could be gresse separation that is very much like an oil substance.
It has leaked that substance again, yet only once since may, after the BC overland festival About a month ago. After it got a lot of use and vey hot over a 2 to 3 day Period.
As I said multiple times I carry a backup winch that's on a plate that goes in to my rear receiver.
We have tested the motor and it seems fine, We did that right off the bat yet it had a bunch of people stumped of what the substance was.
As the other fellow who asked me the question that started this thread again, Who is having the same Issue will find out hopefully that it's just grease separation.
We'll see what the Tech my friend at the dealer has to say.

Had a Smittybuilt 12k on the Raptor behind the bumper where it got hot in sddition to being very hot here, it seeped so badly when new that there was a puddle atop the skid plate….would have sworn it was oil except I knew better.
Got around a turn and a half on all the screws and it pretty much stopped for it’s duration, as far as actual dripping at least.
