Rear differential play

He all. I was doing rear diff service today changing the oil and I noticed quite a bit of slop in my rear diff. I’m wondering if anyone know how normal this is and if it’s not then how far along is it in terms of getting to the point of a breakdown. It’s 3.73 gears with 37” tires. The squeaking noise you hear is the driver side tire rubbing on a jack stand. Thanks for any input

Are you sure the driveshaft/pinion gear is not turning?

Best way to check it is with a dial indicator to see how much it is.

Yea I looked in there and the driveshaft gear isn’t turning. I’m not well versed with rear diff’s but what concerns me is the big gear assembly is moving. I feel that it shouldn’t be doing that

Nothing wrong with that its pretty normal the pinion is gonna be turning a slight amount as it loads up the backlash in the drive terrain as well so the way you are seeing it move is to be expected

Was there any metallic in the oil when you drained it? Any wear on the gear teeth?

Looks like a normal amount of backlash to me
