Hi,

I'm looking at a 2022 2500 Bighorn. But I really want the BSM that we have gotten used to in our 1500. ...especially for towing. So I would plan on adding the BSM to the truck. The truck has "Power Black Trailer–Tow Mirrors w/ Fold–Away & Heat" but I haven't gone to look at the truck yet. But I assume that I just need the glass, not the mirror unit replacement.

My question is once this is done and the security bypass is in place... Am I looking at disabling all of this if I ever have to bring the truck in for something related to the BCM or it's options? Has anyone had experience on this?

Thanks,

Mark

Once you make the changes via Alpha OBD you can remove the security gateway bypass cable. The dealer is not going to pull a build sheet and see what options your truck was built with compared to what you bring them. The only way you will have any issues is if your BCM craps out.... highly unlikely. In this scenario they will reprogram it to factory spec and all you have to do is go in via Alpha to reset your parameters.

Keep in mind its fairly expensive to add BSM since you need to purchase new glass for the mirrors, new tails, and you need to make the harnesses to connect everything together. I believe @Jimmy07 makes the harnesses for a small fee.

Or you flap your gums and tell the dealer you modified it...

The dealer will never know, they are more concerned about people flashing the ECM. Your biggest challenge will be sourcing the parts and cost.

.

Not sure why the dealer would have any problems with a customer modifying parameters that are already built into the module - 99% of the time you are just turning things on or off.

A member of this forum went in and disabled his ANC on his amp and it did not fix his issue. When he went to make a warranty claim he told the dealer what he did and they refused to fix it, he ended up having to purchase a new amp out of pocket.

Wow that seems absolutely insane. Good to know though.

Yes, I did read some of the posts/instructions here and realize the parts and price needed. (no attitude in that statement) ...and I did see that post where the dealership declined coverage. I would think that if I had to service anything related to the electronics types stuff, that I would remove that bypass as a "just in case".

From first hand experience. They will weasel out of a warranty issue if you give them a chance...
