I recently moved to a Ram 2500 from a 2000 Ford Excursion. To have a fairly level single axle trailer loaded with my side by side at under 4000 lbs I used a 6 inch drop with the Excursion. With the Ram, the 6 inch drop leaves the back of my trailer 9 inches off the ground and the front almost 20 inches off the ground. I'm looking at getting a 10 inch drop to even things out more and wonder if anyone has advice or experience they can share. Do i get a class 5 hitch that has an adjustable drop or do I get a class 4 that's not adjustable but would require me to use the reducer sleeve. Is there an obvious answer or is it preference and I'm over thinking it?

An adjustable would work best for all trailers so would be the smart choice… is the truck lifted?

Simply my opinion, but the adjustable 2 1/2 inch ball mount gives you options if you ever have the need to tow another trailer. Towing as level as possible is better, especially if you were to tow a dual axle trailer. And some adjustable ones can be stowed so you don't take out a shin walking behind the truck. :)

Either will work fine. If it was me I would go class 5. Less rattle/slop since there is no sleeve, and more importantly if you ever tow heavier you will already have the hitch for it. Buy once, cry once.

The truck is not lifted, it's standard height 2022 Ram 2500. I worry about the excess rattle/slop with the sleeve, I will shop for a 2.5 inch one and minimize the components needed. Thanks for your insights!
