Well that's exactly what my wife said. She said, "what are you saving for, to leave it to your children for plastic surgery?" They are in their 40's and both have good jobs. They don't save, while we clip coupons and saved for years. My old truck, well is kind of rare. I mean, it's deprecated already but the 6.0 scares me. Now it's never gave me problems but it's old and needs tires, etc. I kept amsoil in it since it was new. It's leaks a tad but only drips. Honestly it's a screaming machine with the 4:10 in it. HOWEVER, a diesel specialist said that's a lot of torque on that 6.0, so hopefully it's sold. Young people today don't always do as they say. I actually was asking 29 for the truck but the guy jump the gun and asked me would I take 35 thousand. I said, sure! But money is not in my hand yet. lol, It doesn't matter, my truck will sell. I don't have a door ding on it. The leather is fair to good, clean truck. Now the Dodge, the new one, I really like it. I'm not use to all the buttons. Drives like a dream. I have the 3.73 rear end. I think simpler is better because the dealer said now warranties cover everything but lets say a sensor goes out and they think it's because you hit a bump. They won't cover it. So I bought the mo par warranty. That added to the cost. The wife is wanting a new truck camper now. Our 2005 Lance 981 has to be cleaned and sold. Perhaps I'll try to sell the package if the man backs our. We like truck campers and have owned one since 2001.

I got 10% off on my recent power wagon purchase the end of May. I ordered it in Feb with just the no price hike guarantee. I have purchased many vehicles from them.
 
I got mine for actual MSRP (time of order) which was good since it went up 3k by the time it arrived. Off to pick it up next weekend!! Then road trip break in home.

I think most states will work with you if you have your ducks in a row. Here is how I did it in MO:-
Bought the 2500 from Mark Dodge in late April. They did not collect any LA sales tax from me, because I financed it through a local credit union in MO.
Sold my 1500 on FBMP about 3 weeks later.
Went to my local "DMV" in St. Louis with my paperwork for the new truck, as well as a Missouri Bill of Sale for the old truck. I also had a MO Title Application filled out.
They subtracted the selling price of my 1500 that I sold privately (after buying the new 2500), and adjusted the taxable purchase price accordingly.
This is essentially the same process as a trade in, but I had the benefit of not being stuck without a vehicle, and got $8K more by selling it myself (vs the trade in offer).

Hopefully this helps some of you if you're contemplating a similar plan.

unfortunately, states that allow a private sale to offset sales tax are very few...generally speaking, most states require the vehicle to be traded in....hence the reason most on here may be able to sell their truck for $3-5k more than what MD offers for their trade, but after factoring in the lost sales tax benefit, the difference is negligible.

That’s a shame if it’s true. Sounds like the auto dealer associations are in bed with the politicians. Don’t get me started….

LOL, we are one of very few countries in the world that will tax a vehicle every time its sold..
The upside is in SC our max sales tax is $500 even if the vehicle cost a cool million

looking for a '22 2500 Laramie crew cab diesel. Entertaining buying it either in CA,OR,UT,ID
what dealerships or price below MSRP can I negotiate for.

A lot of us ordered trucks built to order from Mark Dodge In Lake Charles LA.
Made the deal for 12.5% off msrp, ended up with 14.25% off msrp at time of delivery with an incentive.
I spent countless hours on the web, and numerous phone calls to dealers in the states you mentioned and never found a dealer that came anywhere close to MD.

Any specific contact person, and did you have a carrier deliver it to you, or did you go to LA and drive it home?

I emailed both Aaron and Sandi. Sandi wound up being my poc and she's great! My plan is to fly in spend the weekend in New Orleans and then drive home to Florida
 
I dealt with Aaron. One email, a couple of phone calls, and a couple of emails once truck was ordered.
I had mine shipped out to Sacramento for $1600, and this was before the fuel prices went up.
Unlike all the dealers out west, dealing with MD was strait forward with no BS.

So I have been able to get about 6% below MSRP, and close enough to pick up. Feel pretty good about that but has anyone else recently done better?

from the midwest or east coast would require transport fee. $2K I would think minimum. Being in CA I would rather not deal with that part of it.

several additional factors to consider... 6% on one sitting on the lot, one in transit or is that a custom build? If a custom build, does the 6% include price protection? 6% on a tradesman or limited longhorn? Could throw in the interest rate environment as well but that's going to be the same on a custom order no matter who you order from...which makes the one on the lot more enticing or maybe you're just paying cash.

everybody has a value of their time - whether that be a couple phone calls/emails or just simply the hassle of ordering from someone out of state....there have been others on here that have used the volume discount dealers as leverage and gotten close enough with their local dealer for it to make sense....
