“2WD Low” switch from BD Diesel

I stumbled across this device on the BD Diesel site and wondering if anyone has any experience using it?

I have a 5000 lb cargo trailer that I have to back up a steep incline with a 90 degree turn (my driveway) and I always feel the front wheels/axel binding up. (I always put my truck in 4WD Low for this maneuver as it seems to be much easier on the engine). This wiring harness sounds like the ticket.

I appreciate your comments. Thanks!

That looks pretty sweet- although is having a low range in “2wd” going to help you or have you just needed 4wd due to lack of traction? Gearing isn’t going to accomplish much if the tires just can’t get a grip

If his front wheels are binding, he's got solid traction. This is the perfect solution.

Sometimes being able to use 4Lo when putting a trailer in a tight spot up hill is not about the traction but to get the extra power the gearing offers

I can think of a lot of offroad situations where that would be really nice.

I’ve got 4WD. And that’s the problem. When I put it into low range 4WD and go full lock to push my trailer backwards up a hill, the front wheels seem to bind up.

Yes - spot on. I’m on dry pavement. The engine absolutely screams when it’s in 2WD in reverse trying to push my trailer up the driveway. It’s awesome in 4WD, until I have to make the 90 degree turn (backing up a hill and “pushing” 5000 lbs).

I have one installed. Works great.

Brought AUX switch power back into the cab to enable it.

Great to know. Placing my order today. I won’t bother installing it in my 1500, as the new 2500 is D1, and is scheduled to be built this coming week (according to Renae at MD).

@Brutal_HO, I might circle back around once I have the truck and see how to connect it to one of the AUX switches. (I ordered the Snow Chief and Off Road packages).

Thanks guys

Yes - I read some reviews where guys are using this product to help with tight, low speed off road conditions.
Not really my thing in a truck like mine. I save that stuff for my 2 stroke dirt bike

I have it on my truck, hooked it to my aux switches. Very easy install, I’ve actually used it more than I thought I would.

I have been meaning to get one aswell

It installs below the dash and under the carpet on the passenger side footwell and plugs/slaves into the control box there.

You just supply ground and then power to a lead to enable it. It locks out (disables) the CAD function and then you select 4x4 2-LO like you normally would.

It comes with it's own lighted switch, but you can just use the pass-thru circuits if you have AUX switches to bring one back into the cab. Since you have a PW you would use either their switch or an aftermarket AUX switch setup if you have one.

@Brutal_HO - sorry to bring this thread up again. I got busy with work stuff etc and am finally getting around to installing my BD Diesel 2 wheel Low device.

Do you have any words of wisdom for the installation? I plan to use my AUX switches, and have printed out the 2021 Upfitter Schematic that you posted in another thread. Mine is a 2022 Laramie with Snow Chief and Off Road packages, and I'm assuming it's the same schematic as the 2021 Upfitter Schematic?

PS - A good friend of mine is a retired US Navy Radioman, so he's a whizz with electronics, and he's going to help me (he doesn't know it yet LOL).

Thanks!
