Tire Pressures?

What were everybody's tires inflated to upon receipt from the dealership? Mine were at 85, well above the 60-65 on the door sticker. Also over the pressure the Firestone's are rated to. I seem to recall an issue in the not too distant past with SUV's rolling over after over inflated Firestone's blew out... Guy at the tire shop told me he's heard of issues with the tire light coming on in Ram's when the pressure drops below 80, and opined that the dealership may be airing them up to prevent dealing with warranty issues. Mine have been adjusted down to about 65 for a few thousand miles and no issues with the light. My ride also improved significantly with the lower pressure.

Bringing this post back from the dead after searching the subject. Why do the dealers put them up so high? Mine, picked up yesterday, were all at 90. I put them to the door jamb level of 60/65 and it rides a lot better. I can always air up for a significant load but mostly will run empty.

Not the dealers. they come from the factory at those high af psi's. Also they wont all be the same either. Mine were something like 83,89 front and 90,85 rears

@arx237 of course they do… my bad. Was thinking about the plant and typed dealer for some reason. Seems excessive psi to me.

On my 22 MCSB 2500, tires were about 80 all around at the dealer, I reduced to 65 all around and it improved. After studying the inflation tables, I am at 55/45 now unloaded but accounting for driver and passenger. You only need 65 if you want to max the axle, around 6k pounds each. Basically doing that would put you over gvwr anyways, but I guess it’s safer for the manufacturer to do it this way. Also the tpms lights up at about 52-53psi. I used the AEV procal snap to reset tpms to 45 works great. Ride is very smooth, helps the rear a lot of your not towing. Rear is much less bouncy

Look up your tires on the tire manufactures website and see what they recommend for PSI vs Weight.

I'm running 45/37 on my Power wagon with 35" BFG's. I can actually go lower to around 30 but the wear pattern says that's too low. Truck rides nice. I lowered my TPMS threshold to 30 PSI with AlfaOBD.

Even at 50 PSI on the factory Goodyears, I could see that the outer edge of the tires was not touching the ground, so still way over inflated.
