Expected MPG: 6.4/3.73

Opposite.... Summer fuel gives better MPG and the winter fuel sucks your wallet dry.

Hmm. I just thought since you get more O2 from colder, denser air in the winter the fuel might not need as much energy because you're using more. And thus opposite for summer. But I never really looked into it

I'm one of those weirdos that check my mileage every single tank and every single vehicle, I always get better gas mileage in summer months and always get worse in the winter. Same for diesel as it is for gas.

I do too as well, that’s why this has me scratching my head. I changed the oil about 2000 miles ago so I dont think that would impact it? There’s no leaks anywhere and the truck is still driving as smooth as it was when I got it. Does anyone know if the MDS learns your driving style and adjusts to it, I wonder if that could be causing it?

Ive felt that it does learn your driving. I swear once I tried being a featherfoot for a whole tank, then next tank I tried driving normal and could swear the cylinders were getting cut more frequently. I take the same route to and from work everyday so it is fairly easy to remember where it happens

I wonder if a reflash of the ECM to catch any updates might help??

Went on a 300 mile round trip with outfit in avatar (truck camper and boat/atv trailer) used to gross about 15,000 with my 06 2wd dually, so I assume thats still pretty close.
Lie-0-Meter showed 9 mpg..haven't hand checked yet....very satisfied with 6.4 as far as power.

Update on mileage - I’m now up to 13.4 MPG average on the EVIC trip meter and am hopeful it’s still going to improve even if only a little. I’ve been watching my driving and paying close attention at fill ups. In doing so I found out the EVIC system has an “safety” feature to prevent you from running out of gas. On 2 consecutive occasions I purposefully drove til almost empty, letting my low fuel light come on before I fill up. I wanted to test the 31 gallon tank capacity and see if that’s what it really holds. After the first couple of fill ups it didn’t seem right so I thought I’d test it. By happenstance both times the light came on the EVIC showed 40 miles to empty when I got the pumps. Both times it took around 25 gallons to top off. So with 40 miles to empty at 13.4 MPG that should mean there’s 3 gallons left in the 31 gallon tank. I’m not good at math but I’m pretty sure that’s a 3 gallon delta, 25+3=28 so 31-28=3...

I called RAM and spoke to the customer service rep and explained the situation. She put me on hold and consulted her supervisor and came back to say that’s a designed safety feature to prevent you from running out of fuel. IF that’s true I’m happy to know but I’m not convinced for sure. I wish they had increased the gas tank size along with the other improvements.

Has anyone else experienced/noticed something similar? I’m also going to post in a low fuel light thread.

I'm really lost with your math, but maybe I am missing something. If you put 25 gallons in both times that means when you filled up, you had 6 gallons remaining. At 13.4 MPG, you should have 6x13.4 miles left in the tank at that consumption rate. 80.4 miles. So the EVIC is off by about 40 miles at that consumption rate. I appreciate that buffer and it isn't a heck of a lot. I had a Tundra before the RAM that had a 38 gallon tank and it would show zero miles to empty with 9 gallons remaining. Drove me nuts. Only once did I drive an hour towing a trailer having not the slightest idea of how much fuel I had left. I knew I could make it, but I wasn't 100% positive I could. I think it is pretty common to have a buffer and RAM's is by no means excessive.

The math is simple - I can only put 25 gallons into a tank that allegedly holds 31 gallons, that leaves a 6 gallon deficit. If the EVIC says I have 40 miles to empty using the 13.4 MPG average that should mean there’s 3 gallons in reserve which brings it to 28 gallons. If that’s accurate then there’s still 3 gallons needed to get to 31. My belief is we actually have a 28 gallon tank. Without completely running the truck out of gas and filling it up from absolute empty there’s no way to know the actual volume.

I also have a 2019 Ram 1500 Longhorn that has a 33 gallon tank. It adds up when I fuel it.

I bought my truck to tow with not to worry about mileage. Mileage has never been an issue for me but I do wonder sometimes how good it can get and how much distance i can tow with. Pay to Play.

I have run mine out of gas and was able to put 30.6 gallons in.
Good to hear from someone who has been there and done that. So it sounds like we don’t have a true 31 gallon tank :) I guess we’ll have view it as a 30.6 rounded up , glass half full kind of thing then !! Thanks for the info

More likely that last .5 or so is below the pump level...

Hadn't reset mine yet. Started our around 13.5 for the first few thousand miles.

I'm betting that you live in the more flat area of the country.

Location makes things like MPG, tire and brake life and salt/body and frame rust effects change dramatically. I've been working at developing a driving technique and route to try to get mine too stay at our above 13.0 mpg empty commuting to work. It's very difficult with the up hills as you are seeing any downhill or level driving gains taken away.

Same here, I’m adapting my driving style to maximize fuel economy but despite my best efforts I’m only able to achieve between 13.1 - 13.5 MPG average, but that’s it. I have a lot of stop and go driving with moderate rolling hills. Time to face reality...that big ol’ Hemi loves the go-go juice. Good thing gas cheap...at least for now

Yep. Louisiana is about as flat as you can get. lol

Brought mine home today, 100 mile trip running 60 on2 lane highways through several towns and quite a few stop lights and averaged 16.3. My tuned Ecoboost couldn’t do that. I only tuned it because the mileage was so bad I figured it might as well have power. Liking the 6.4 8 spd so far.

I have a 2019 f150 King Ranch with a 3.5 Eco and 10-speed, and driving around the same area it generally gets three to four miles per gallon better, if you thought a 3.5 EcoBoost in an f150 was bad you're going to hate your 6.4!

Update on MPG - I was feeling pretty good about possibly increasing my mpg over time based on the truck’s computer display. A positive of the COVID in my area is there’s a lot less traffic on the roadway so not as much stop and go to get to work. The EVIC showed me increasing to 14.1 average on the trip meter for total miles driven. The current average was showing 13.9.

I drove it until the fuel light came on and my distance to empty was reading 25 miles... The hand calculation was 345 miles driven burning 26.9 gallons = 12.8 MPG ... ouch...
