As I await for my new 2500 I have been researching rear tonneau covers. I would normally just get a tri fold cover to secure several items, guns, surfboards, freedom loving things...

I came across bestop Truck 2 and Fastop during my research. I like the idea to increase the storage height since my wife likes to over pack for every trip we go on, this will allow for the extra room needed.

Anyone have any experience with Bestop Truck 2 or the Fastop? I like the looks better on Bestop but the tonneau cover included with the fastop , plus the way fastop mounts to the bed just seems easier .

Anybody have any comments on what the pros and cons are?

I like my Fastop as it can be a tonnea or a softopper. Don’t think it’s as water tight as Bestop but mine just had miner leaks. I think is because of the design and function it has more potential areas to leak. But overall I love it and the versatility plus the company was easy to work with and communicate. Here’s the post I did on my install.

I installed the Bestop truck 2 topper about a month ago.

Pros:
- increased height and enclosed space
- included third brake light
- tinted rear window
- can be folded down when you need more load space for taller items

Cons:
- Leaks at the corners
- no side windows
- only comes in black

Overall, very happy with it. I sometimes lust over the RSI smart cap, but it is easier to fold when you need more space than you planned for; than having to remove a hard topper and store it somewhere--especially if you aren't somewhere where to can store the hard top.

Last question guys on this, anyone have the interior dimensions for the 6'4 bed on a Mega Cab?

I found online 76.3" but I wanted to confirm that's the actual interior measurements with the bed closed

Bed is no different on a mega-cab.

Right, are the internal dimensions 76.3"?

Ah, I see. That dim is taken at the floor and the Fas-Top needs the dim at the top. A call to Fas-Top may be easier than waiting for someone to measure their truck. I would expect they know what fits what trucks.

Good plan

Yes still happy with it love the versatility. Not as water tight as the Bestop may be but it does a good job. I also live in WA state so tons of rain. Used it this weekend in both ways. Towing I didn’t need it up and then for a beach day camping we put it up to hide from some wind and after throw all the sandy stuff in.

What “options” did you select when you bought it? Seems as though there’s several options to choose from on the site without much description on what they are.

I got the storage bag that bolts to the rail on the inside and I use it to hold some tie downs and the other accessories, rear window blackout piece that can replace the clear window, and clips to roll up the sides if I want to.

Gotcha, gotcha. Cool. Anything you’d do differently?

No, I love being able to use my bed as normal and have a tonneau cover during all the rain here plus a softopper.
Last question….maybe ….do you have any good pictures of it flat? As in functioning as a tonneau cover? I’ve been stuck in between getting a tonneau and a full blown cap ($$!) as I envision trying to camp out of it when it’s popped up but also don’t want the commitment of having a cap on full time but the esthetics of what the tonneau looks like may be holding me back. Oh…and how much do you suppose it weighs?

I have pictures in my original post here

It looks good in my opinion when it’s just the tonneau cover. And here’s a few other pictures

Yeah, I’d seen the pics in the other post. Much thanks for these. It does look pretty sharp too. You may have sold one for them!
