Anyone replace their rockers with weld in sliders/rock rails ?

I put some pretty nasty dents in my truck and now have a fair bit of work ahead of me. I’ve seen lots of rock rails that sit on the outside of the rockers but I have been in more than a few friends trucks that have them and I can’t stand them. The biggest part is kicking my feet out of the truck and always rubbing my leg on them. No steps, or running boards on my truck because they annoy me. So I’m looking at options of cutting out the rockers entirely abs replacing them with with square tubing to act as rock rails. Anyone done this ? Any suggestions where to look for resource / suggestions ?

We used to do it with the the 2nd gens and jeeps, my one yj i built the rub rails out of 1/4” tubing and made them my OBA tanks they worked awesome
