2019 Truck cap/topper/camper shell thread

Has anyone contacted leer customer service? I bought my cap (100xr) and this thing is a piece of ****. It’s crooked to the point where a fiberglass edge is always rubbing the paint. Already stripped paint off the truck. Dealer has adjusted many times but they can’t get it to not rest on the paint. The back window won’t shut without slamming it. I have adjusted the thing 100 times. It’s like they made the cap for the wrong truck. Cannot get ahold of anyone at leer. Sent 8 emails, left messages and no response in over a month. If anyone here is looking for a cap stay far away from leer. Should have got the ARE. Also if you are in the Destin/ Ft Walton Beach Florida area stay away from Restylers. They told me nothing they can do for me and won’t even help me file a warranty claim.

Sucks you're having this issue. For what it's worth I think it's bad luck more than anything. I'd start reaching out on social media channels, post on the Leer facebook page that you've reached out 8 times, called and can't get a hold of anything, etc.

That said, the issue you're having is one of the reasons I hate the traditional cap business so much. Can't get any pricing online, have to contact dealers. Dealers are the face of leer/are/etc. and yet often don't know all the details and when something goes wrong most times don't want to make it right since it's not their problem. Puts you as the customer between a rock and hard place.

heck I was drawn to the look..but I drive an ugly ass billet silver Power Wagon so not like it could get any uglier..
I’m not sure if they made changes to it or something, but it looks better on your truck than any I remember seeing. That is sharp! I dig the two tone look maybe you can tell from my two tone black look

Reached out and still nothing from Leer. Terrible customer service. Should have got the ARE.

The early iteration was designed for the 1500 if I recall correctly, and so the portions were slightly off. I think it was most noticeable from the rear looking forward as the roof line was more narrow causing it to be thinner then the profile of the truck, especially obvious at the front of the bed towards the cab. They created a version specifically for the HD trucks at some point recently, which to me looks vastly better.

I hated it in the beginning, it's starting to grow on me the longer I've got it. I'm looking at a bumper option so I can install some lights and a winch, and I'm thinking the expedition one bumper may look good with the cap.

Hope you can get the topper where you can live with it. My ARE had some flaws and was even missing an option I paid for. But, I can live with it and I’m very happy to have it.

I just got the exact same canopy and I did have to get both side windows replaced because it was manufactured with screws that were too long and came through the frame on the outside. Other than that, the lip on the edges does get closer to the side of truck toward the middle as opposed to the front and back, but does not touch. Do you have the long bed or short bed? When they installed mine, you had to slam it hard too but after adjusting the latch, it shuts easy now. I am curious where yours leaks? Where was it manufactured (it says on the placard mounted to the underside of the roof of the canopy)? I was going to contact Leer just to complain about how they could let the thing leave the factory with the windows looking like that, but it sounds like it's no use. I hope you get somewhere with them or at least the dealer takes care of you. For the prices these are, they should be damn near perfect.

It was leaking from every bed rail. Puddles everywhere. I took it off and left it at the dealer. Fighting for a refund now. I adjusted the latches countless times and still would not shut without slamming it. Thing is a POS

Added in some LED light strips to the metal frames of my A.R.E. cap. makes such a big difference. Just tapped them right into the factory switch in the bed. easy on and off with the switch, unlock or the cargo switch in the cab. Couldn't ask for more light or a better install.

So does a camper shell from a 2nd gen fit a 4.5 gen?
Well kinda. I had camper shell on my 2001 and it's been sitting out in the weeds last 10 years serving as a trampoline and snake shelter. Dug it out and set it on. Needs a back window and some paint. Doesn't match the cab profile at all. But should be good enough for hunting20220607_174016.jpg

Just got my topper on a couple weeks ago. Painted pearl white to match, surf racks. I work out of my truck so got the bedslide to save my back and knees.

Well finally after 3 years (I think I started this thread even?), I have joined the hard top club. Got a used 2018 A.R.E. Z Series. Fits perfect, even with my bigger cargo cam 3rd brake light. I should have done this a long time ago.
