No "off" setting?

Unfortunately in Canada any vehicles newer then 1993 need to have daytime running lights operational. That’s meaning the front facing head lights or markers whenever the vehicle is in gear are illuminated. Rear markers don’t need to be illuminated during the day tho. This is a Canada wide regulation.

That still doesn’t explain why they started putting a headlight switch with no off position (“O”) in the 2022’s. They already have daytime running lights that keep the low beam lamps illuminated exactly like they are supposed to be, and Canadian market rams are configured so there is no radio setting to toggle the DRLs on or off. Even on the pre-2022 Canadian Rams that do have the headlight switch with an “off” position, putting the headlight switch in the off position has no effect on the DRLs, and they remain on when they are supposed to.
It’s a head scratcher for sure…unless maybe did they recently amend the law to include rear markers having to be lit during the day, too? That’s the only thing I can think of.

Is there no way to turn the headlights off and have the truck running? I tried turning the Daylight running lights off and setting the parking brake. But the halo lights still stay on.

Those are a completely different feature from DRLs, and shouldn’t be confused with anything being talked about in this thread. Those are signature lights, and they are on whenever the truck is running. The only way to turn those off is with AlfaOBD.

I am thinking the dash lights staying dark requirement is the newer difference...

I know why they did it, it is because people with auto lights still use them like manual lights and drive with no lights on at night i forgot they changed the regs for new vehicles. I know a few years ago they made it mandatory for new vehicles to have the auto feature standard to prevent people driving at night with no tail lights (i see it almost daily). so this is the next step as people with the auto lights still were not smart enough to leave the switch alone…

I’m just trying to get all the headlights to turn off while the truck is parked but running. We went to the drive-in movies and were unable to turn the lights off

Similarly, is there a way to have the headlights NOT come on when truck is OFF and a door is opened?
2021 3500 Laramie.
Camping and blinding neighbors whenever I open a door.

Now THAT is a very good question Jeff.

That should be a setting in the u connect

They come up with some brilliant ideas....Take a wrench and disconnect the battery!! LOL
Pretty sure our local drive in requires tuning into an am? radio freq. No poles with window speakers anymore.

Heck..I thought drive in movies were a thing of the past?

Drive-in movies!?!?!?!!!!!??? The last one of those shut down around here ~30 years ago. Loved going to those as a kid!! It's really sad when driving through the country and coming across a weed-choked dilapidated drive-in theater with the screen frame still standing but all faded and lonely. Most of the listening posts are smashed down but a few lean upright with hammered window speakers dangling from them. Then one looks to toward the old soda/popcorn/lavatory building and eyes tear up seeing it all shot up, windows smashed out, graffiti covered grime everywhere and decades of rain erosion like splashed acid eating away the cinder block walls. If one stands quietly the ghosts of '56 Chevy Bel Air 2-doors, '69 Camaro SS 396s, '70 Mustang Boss 302s, and the occasional cheap-man's suped'up Chevy Nova SS drift in full of beer drinking guys with t-shirts rolled up over their skinny bicepts and laughing pig-tailed blondes hanging out the windows. Sooooo many good times......

Thanks for sparking those old memories!
