I would like to have my truck and trailer all set up the day prior so all we have to do is wake up and leave the next morning.

Can I do any harm to my truck leaving the camper hooked up to it for 20 hours or so just sitting in the driveway? The trailer is not especially heavy. About 6K fully loaded and between 500-600 lbs of tongue weight.

Thanks.
Ron

I don't see what the problem would be. I leave my toyhauler hooked to mine for longer periods then that and It's triple your weight.

There are plenty of trucks that keep the trailer on for the lifetime of the vehicle you are fine its no different than having it on while driving….

I have done this many times. I’m sure it won’t hurt anything to have it all hooked up and ready to pull right out. I have though Hooked everything up and lowered my landing gear or tongue jack just enough to just kinda take the weight off the suspension. Just remember to raise it before you take off.

As everyone has said, no problem. In these situations, I always unplug the trailer from the truck to prevent any truck battery drain. An overnight plugged in should not be a problem.
I usually do the opposite i keep the trailer plugged in to the house and the truck so the trailer keeps the truck batteries topped up lol

I could see that working, I've never thought about it running backwards like that through the bat + on the 7 pin.

I have no data to back this up, but I thought my 19 Ram 3500 shut off trailer plug power when not running.

Not unless you put something in it to disconnect the circuit. I made a tire inflator cord that runs off the 7 pin with 30ft of wire so i can air up my trailer tires or other things if needed that are on the flat deck and it will run with the truck off on my 19 just like it has on every other truck i have owned

I do it all the time, just remote start 10-15 minutes before leaving to get the fluids up to temp and then take it easy the first couple of miles to get everything good and lubricated and up to final operating temp. After engine coolant is fully up to temp it is off to the races on the freeway.

Wait - are you sure you’re not doing it wrong? (In my head, that was incredibly witty and is bringing smiles to every observant reader’s face as we speak…)

But seriously - is there some sort of “battery minder” or some sort of controller between the 7 pin and the batteries? I recall switching out my converter in my trailer for exactly that reason - it was a single stage converter and never transitioned voltage to “float” when near fully charged. I was getting one to two seasons out of my RV batteries until I swapped it out and I got 5 out of my last ones…

Most inverters i have seen work as a battery tender i have no issue with getting 5-7 years out of my batteries and i run them way down in the cold months out hunting instead of running my generator i just use the batteries for the furnace fan

if you have Litium batteries that are low in your trailer rig they will drain the battery from the truck if you don’t have a dc to dc converter wired in. Then you’d want to disconnect the 7 pin
