CP4 recall thread (merged threads) - Y78 Jan 2022 recall campaign - Parts Available May 10 for 2020 trucks only

Just called FCA recall department today for a update and they informed me that May 10, 2022 the parts for the HPFP will be sent out. Now they still haven’t said what the actual fix is. I’m hoping it’s just a CP3 conversion but can’t say for certain.
Its a CP3.3 swap thats pretty well known at this point

Old news but thanks for sharing.

It's a CP3.3 retrofit kit.

I guess I have to get dealer approval before I get reimbursed. very strange. none of the reimbursements I'm tracking that have been done at independent shops, required this.20220407_144642.jpg

I've heard of a few users that have stated such. It seems to be a rare case. FCA really needs to get their process unified for this because the amount of conflicting information around this has been pretty insane.

i'm between houston for work and the farm in wknds iver the next month. trying to fit an appt with these knotheads is going to be, um...painful. at a minimum, assign my case number to a local service advisor and can call to follow up. nope. throw it over the fence, because stellantis.

At least they are entertaining a reimbursement. A little inconvenient but puts cash back in your pocket.

sure. I appreciate their broken process of getting a customer taken care of, that proactively took steps to fix an issue that stellantis engineering and finance leadership approved, knowing it was going to bite a butt, and now can't even support the recall. and i have to jump through additional hoops, that others havent had to? uh... yah. I appreciate stellantis "consideration" :D

On the bright side, you could have a Chevy or Ford with a CP4 and no manufacturer contact at all...LOL

Do we know anything about this CP3.3? I can't find anything on the internet and I am really considering just going through with the S&S CP3 no-tune kit. I'd hold off if I knew that the cp3.3 was better... or even different. But, I'm worried it might not be as robust as the old fashioned CP3.

Thanks for sharing this. As I mentioned above, I am really close to just pulling the trigger on a CP3 swap. It's good to be able to predict what extra steps would be required for reimbursement.

I've been looking for this information since they changed over the to CP3 for the 21+ models. I've yet to find any data on what is different about these "new" CP3s. I decided upon just doing a S&S kit as I've got a cross country trip coming in July and don't wanna risk getting stranded, and with all the delays and issues in Europe right now I'm worried that Bosch is gonna be struggling to get enough parts for this swap. Still haven't heard of anyone receiving word that kits are ready for install, so I'm taking FCA up on the reimbursement.

From the looks of the unit alone, it doesn't functionally look different than previous gen CP3s, so I'm guessing it's maybe an internal change for a slightly larger size? The aftermarket has been doing upgraded sizes of CP3s forever at this point (10mm, 12mm, 14mm CP3s) so I know that S&S is fully capable of this product.

I may be "missing out" on whatever the upgrade to the CP3.3 is, but I can't imagine it's a huge difference, or even a requirement. If there was something so different about the CP3.3 then I highly doubt that FCA would be reimbursing those that had made the swap, but who knows?

Thanks for the reply. I am looking at doing almost an identical trip to you at almost the same time. At this point, my mind is wondering if the CP3.3 will be a "cost reduced" version of the CP3 offered by S&S...

Leaving on a 2K+ trip towing on Saturday and I'm not going to worry about it. If it goes then it goes and I can't do anything about it. Dealer gave me a phone number and said "If it goes out call this number, they'll take care of you", who knows

Here is my Theory based on the limited facts we know… the CP3 was ditched to the CP4 due to the beed of higher fuel pressure, the cp3 kits people are buying are overdriven CP3 pumps so they are being pushed past their limits. The CP3.3 although we have no info it appears to be able to reach CP4 pressure so knowing the CP3.3 is the similar design and shape as the CP3 i am lead to believe the CP3.3 is just a bigger bores and pistons than the original CP3 which is great means it should last but if it fails it wont kill the rest of the fuel system

I would hold out for the CP3.3 in my opinion

Your theory is similar to mine then. Just as a point of clarification, the no-tune pump by S&S is not overdriven. It's a standard speed 10mm pump. If you select the "Super Sport" or pumps that are higher flow, they are overdriven though.

I suspect it's just the CP-ISB21S3 with a different port setup.

It would be nice to see the data plate from one that's been installed due to CP4.2 failure.

@John Jensen claims there's one with his name on it due in for the recall, let's get some pics before it goes on John!

Like everyone else, dealer is still waiting for it to arrive. The date keeps getting pushed out like previous recalls. I'm still #1 on his list. I'll take a pic if it ever gets here.

For those more mechanically-knowledgeable than me, I would appreciate hearing thoughts on what else, if anything should/ should not be included in the RECALL besides a new pump and the labor to install it. Should I expect new fuel filters ? Other related parts ? After the dealer has done the recall work, or after his "inspection" of the work done by another, should I expect him to dislose to me any sign of damage, like metal shavings, in the system ?

I don't think even dealer can answer your questions at this time. They'll get their instructions when they get the parts
