Really depends on what you believe… i try to fuel up strictly at shell stations because i like the air miles…. The only place i avoid fulling up at is reservations the native fuel is cheap and from low grade suppliers here as they do not have the same regulations as other fuel stations

Based on my research,.
#2 diesel is all pretty much the same.
B5 Diesel is 5% renewable diesel and 95% normal #2 diesel.
B20 diesel is 20% renewable and 80% normal #2 diesel.
Per the owner's manual for my 22 3500 HO, I am supposed to use #2 diesel and B5 diesel ONLY. Anything higher I could cause damage. So as of right now Shell seems to be the only one in my area that has normal #2 diesel. Most Cheveron's have B20.

I always try to purchase at high volume stations, truck stops, Costco etc that go through a lot of fuel. Small stations or less busy locations are more apt to contamination, water, or aged fuel. I've rarely drained any water out of my filter water separators over the years.

Some stations "claim" to have better additive packages but who really knows? I usually use Circle K and the truck does seem to get slightly better mileage then when I use other brands but it's splitting hairs really. From what I understand Circle K uses Shell as they have some sort of connection (parent company)

CircleK was MACS and unless things are different there they used to and continue to use ESSO fuel…
There are different additive packages but I don't know that you'll find them much at the pump in road diesel. There's Top Tier which is supposed to be something special but good luck finding any. I get really good fuel offroad fuel from my local supplier but won't take the chance running it in my pickup.
