Hey folks, new RAM owner here. Picked up 3500 yesterday and trying to figure out the camera stuff. I got a package that I was able to connect to bumper of the trailer that outputs to my rearview mirror, so that's easy. Now I got another plug at the bumper that is 12 pin. I didn't get any cameras for that so I was told by my rep to go find an aftermarket camera. Is it possible to plug in trailer side cameras to it? That would be ideal so that I have pretty much 360 view of the trailer. It's a really long trailer... Any suggestions? Thanks!

XN1- Trailer Surround view system- $995.
This is a standalone option, but you must have a package that includes regular truck surround view, and you must have a Uconnect 5 radio. The kit that comes delivered with the truck will have 4 digital cameras, a central vision processing module (CVPM), coax cables to connect the cameras to the CVPM, and the main sections of harness that carry the CVPM’s power, ground, canbus IHS hi/lo, and video output signal (3 wires) to the truck via the 12-pin connector. It is described as “to be installed by the dealer”, and I don’t see any instructions for the kit, so curious to see some that gets this post up the instructions that should be included. I’m sure it involves mounting the cameras on the 4 sides within a certain height range of each other, and calibrating the cameras to the CVPM using fixed points they are looking at."

On my statement, i see the "XFQ" prep package but it says "no camera". So i think it will fit based on the diagram, the 4-camera system.

Does your truck have 360° surround?

The digital system only works with surround view trucks.

It doesn’t look like it

Then you can only use the analog trailer camera.

RAM dropped the 360° (and power fold mirrors) from all but the Limited trims for most of 21/22 so all but the very early orders and a few that slipped through for a time in January orders won't have it.

The Mopar kit is expensive and the (analog) camera is garbage.

Most of us have sourced the 12-pin harness and cables elsewhere. I got a Ford cable and modified my own. Some have gone to Nichols manufacturing for cables, then mod up your choice of aftermarket camera. I don't think anyone makes a true plug and play with an aftermarket camera.

The digital tow mode camera is so good, I'd just stick with that. The surround would be nice if you often find yourself in tight parking situations with no spotter but I haven't really found a need for it since I started pulling a fifth wheel in 2004.

I see, when building online i see that Laramie doesn't even have an option for surround video trailer system. So i guess that's not an option.

If you can source the parts, you can add it DIY.

If you want to go that route, reach out to @Jimmy07

It's not going to be cheap. I think you would need at least the power folding mirrors with cams, front camera, digital CHMSL, and CVPM but I'm just guessing.

You'd also need an AlfaOBD setup to set all the sales codes.

It might be cheaper to order a new Limited and trade. LOL. (j/k probably not)
