RamCares Cp4 service solution updates - (Y78) CP4 recall issued by FCA - 2020 Parts Available May 10

I've seen references by some receiving two letters. I've only received the initial recall letter. Can anyone summarize what the second letter said?
Thanks

Any updates on whether they got enough parts to start doing this recall or they still only do it on the trucks with failed pumps?

In some ways, I'm very disappointed in how Ram has handled this issue. On the other hand, the identified solution is a full replacement with an updated version of the defective part. And, from what I understand, less scrutiny if you experience a failure prior to having the recall work done. This has given me some security in driving my truck. Still, my truck is just transportation and not my primary means of earning a living. I feel for you guys who have to depend on your truck to earn your bucks.

No the recall is not an updated version its a completely different pump that can never have the same failure. I don't see why the hate on RAM as both GM and FORD ignored the issue and never helped the consumer RAM is the only one who is replacing the pump with a better pump as a recall in my mind RAM is above all others in this scenario

I was not sure if there was some confusion because at one point there actually was an updated pump that also was an issue. I hope we can get the pump swapped soon though

Don't hold your breath. I was at my dealer today and asked the SM about it, he said there's no news yet on parts. Told me they're being tight lipped about it so far, even to the dealers.

They always are quiet because dealers have a habit of spreading miss information if they dont get all the info at once, dealers wont have the info until we do thats normal

Just as a counter point, while I def heard of failures with the l5p and power stroke, it was nowhere near the amount of failures I heard from the Cummins. Combined with the fact that both the Duramax and power stroke outsell the Cummins by a pretty wide margin it's more shocking.

Also, keep in mind that while ram claimed to have a service solution in the works it was delay after delay and we didn't hear anything till after the nhtsa got involved. I can't know if their service solution was the same as the recall, but you can't know that either. If you wanna be pessimistic or optimistic is your call, I'm realistic, and to be clear I was convinced from early on that they would do a recall and replace with the cp3.

I'm happy they "did the right thing" but it wasn't without a fair amount of arm twisting.

It was gms lml and lmm not the l5p and to be fair there is tons of failures on the ford/gm forums But unless you are on those forums you wont hear much otherwise

Usually if its NHTSA forcing the had you dont hear much for about a year after they start the investigation but they had the recall figured out in about a month.
I am glad they went with the CP3.3 VS the standard CP3 as the is able to put out more pressure to match what the CP4.2 would output minus the glitter lol

Ah, good catch. I know GM changed to denso pumps and injectors with the intro of the L5P so I'm not sure why I jotted that down, I'm gonna blame it on multi-tasking while hanging with the little guy ;)

I'm interested for someone to do a teardown on the "CP3.3" and see what differences it has from that of other CP3s. I don't expect much.

Yea there is not much info on the 3.3 yet but it is still a 3piston Like the original CP3 im guessing the different name designation could be it has a bigger bore for more fuel or something mildly different from the original CP3 time will tell i guess

Whatever the internals of the CP-ISB21-S3 (21+) pump are, I fully expect it will be the same. The external fuel connections appear different than the 21+ trucks, more like a standard CP3 of old and I expect that was done for fitment reasons. The 19-20 trucks will now have a different set of PN for the pump and fuel feed line and tune software but there were many mid-year changes that created similar situations in the past so it's no big deal. Sometimes getting parts for my 04.5 was a pain due to the change.
