What did you do TO your RAM today?

I made my own on-board air 4-tire inflation/deflation system for my Jeep. Write-up here: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...ed-rubicon-ecodiesel-jlurd.52136/post-1138424

I plan on doing a similar OBA setup in my 3500 once I get it. (Ordered 3/3/22) I opted to mount the compressors inside the cabin of my Jeep because I would go through deep water. But I don't plan on being as aggressive with my truck, so I'll be mounting the compressors under the body somewhere. I'll post a write up on this forum once I get my truck and get it installed. For now, I just wanted to share my Jeep's OBA setup for anyone on the HD Rams forum that may be considering OBA - might generate some ideas.

Would you recommend going through the hassle of hard mounting it or do you think after going through the trouble, that most people would be fine with the ARB twin compressor inside the little mobile case with attachments inside? I have a hard time justifying the pain of getting it mounted right, and dealing with getting it back out if knock on wood, an accident ever happened or got sold. I know how having it secured and not worry about forgetting it on an outing or such is nice but to what length should one go if they are just using it for the usual airing up tires and floaties?

I would add that it depends on where you are going to store the portable case. I had it in my Decked drawers and it was a pain in the rear to fish it out and use. Since mounting it in the engine bay, it’s so much nicer to use. I thought portable would be nice and good to move between vehicles, but it really wasn’t worth the hassle after using it that way a couple of times. I bought the engine bay bracket from NHOverland.

Things to consider when putting a compressor in the engine bay...

Pros:
  • Easy access to batteries for getting everything wired up. This also reduces the distance to the compressor. Remember that with DC wiring, the farther away the load is, the heavier gauge wiring you need to use. An ARB compressor peaks at 37 amps (each). If you mount the compressors far away you'll need 10, 8 or even 6 gauge wires per compressor.
  • It keeps the "mechanical stuff" where mechanical stuff belongs - under the hood. The engine bay also already has a lot of sound insulation. (This is a con too, see below.)
  • Probably the easiest and most straightforward location to mount a compressor.
Cons:
  • Be careful about what kinds of air hoses you use, they need to be able to stand up to the heat. Certain lines can rupture under pressure if they get too hot.
  • Air compressor duty cycle will be reduced if the compressor is already hot / warm from being in the engine bay.
  • Access can be cumbersome, depending on where you mount controls and output ports. Raising the hood to use your compressor can be tedious depending on how often you use it. Also if you're short and / or you have a lift, it can be hard to see or reach your components.
Overall, my opinion, under the hood is the easiest installation, a poor location (heat), and can be an awkward place to use it. Just my $0.02.

PS: Not trying to hijack the "What did you do today?" thread and turn it into an OBA thread. Just sharing thoughts and ideas since OBA systems seem to be trending in this thread.

in the pouring socal rain, dropped her off for a full avery dennison rugged wrap in black. after following a buddy in a taco down a way too narrow stretch chasing trout the clearcoat was shredded. did one round of paint correction and was told i had pretty much no clearcoat left to work with. on the oregon trip over new years, the road grit and someone rubbing up against the rear passenger door kind of did me in. unfixable scratch.... knew more would be coming so decided to go with the wrap... also going to debadge while they're at it.

waiting on a black powder coated super pacific camper for the back, so the AD black rugged wrap and the black SP camper should look pretty slick. more importantly, no shredding the paint!

Nothing crazy. Just new wiper blades View attachment 34645View attachment 34646
I just bought new wipers for my truck too. The new ones are the noisiest pieces of $hit I’ve ever experienced. Taking them back today. Never thought I’d return wipers, but they make this awful clacking sound with every direction change. I’d rather drive with my head out the window.

Which ones did you get? I chose these because they were $8 off two at Advance ($30/ea reg)

I haven’t driven in the rain but I did the obligatory “use your washers a bunch because you got new wipers” move and they were seemingly pretty fantastic blades.

I’d like to know/see how much texture that has when it’s done. I’ve thought about this for my rear bumper

RCD- here are some good photos from the shop that's doing mine. kind of sold me on it. https://www.instagram.com/p/CVQqlasv2hv/

and re: wipers- i just went with the bosch to replace the factory ones that made it 2+ years. they're awesome, but i originally bought a single one assuming that for that price there must be two the package! had to go back to the auto parts store

I got Trico premiums. I took them back this morning and just went with the napa exact fit brand. The exact fits work without slapping the windshield every time they change direction and where half add much money. If I can get a year out of them I’ll be happy.

Had the Westin Running boards installed a week ago. Only option from the dealer for the options I had was chrome and I prefer no chrome (didnt want to pay the extra few grand for the blacked out option or I would ahve done that).
Have a cap ordered but that will not be in until June.

nice indeed. I want to do that but Katzkin would not tell me who there installer is until after I purchased and that turned me off. they said one installer is like 120 miles from me and the other 200 and without knowing who they are to check out their reputations i had to pass.
