How do you keep the canopy door from rubbing the paint off of the top of the tailgate?

Since these Rams have that thick top to the tailgate, I imagine most canopies have the curved plastic at the bottom of the rear window that seals up against the tailgate. Mine has a pretty nice seal everywhere but even after just a few days, I notice it is starting to scuff the paint at the top of the tailgate right underneath where the plastic ends on the tailgate. I was thinking of putting something like a 1/16' thick weather stripping at the underside of the curved plastic part of the canopy door to provide a little cushion between the two but wanted to see if you guys had a better idea.

I’ve been meaning to trim my overhanging plastic to remedy this but it’s probably too late now.

I had that issue with my Snugtop on my 4th gen. The splash wham-o from Geno's fixed it.

Luckily my ARE on the current truck doesn't rub, but if at some point it starts to, I'll be going that same route again.

I forgot about the splash wham-o, just ordered one to cover up my wife's backing incident.

That's a good idea. So just maybe run a strip of something like this right under the plastic part? 1/2" should cover it.

Probably what I would do.

They used to sell clear thick plastic stick on pads/rectangles for stuff like this but I'll be damned if I can find any online.

A piece of electrical tape is working fine for now!

I use this to protect the paint under mud flaps and the door sills to protect from boot scuffs. It’s clear once you pull the backing of the protective film. It very durable and almost invisible. Very nice stuff. Just spray the area down with some soapy water the position the tape where you want it. Then take a small squeegee and work the water and any bubbles out.

Thanks for all the advice. I ordered some of that door edge tape since it is 1/2" wide and that is all I need. What is the best way to get the minor scuff off of the paint? Will rubbing some toothpaste on it do the trick?
